Show us your AM4 boards!

Will Do! BTW, I did try this morning - the side-by-side comparison, re: Stomp vs No Stomp. I could not tell the difference. I also tried the impedance matching with a DI box that someone mention earlier, and I didn't notice a huge difference, a slight difference in the high-end of my clean sounds, but not enough to add yet another box to my pedalboard. So I'll be gigging with it tonight in the configuration shown (AM4 straight into the Loop of the Stomp).
Awesome!
Quick question: on your stomp, do you use 1 block as Fx loop or you use 2 blocks 1 for fx send and 1 for fx return?

I got the AM4 on December 27, 2025 and now I'm very happy with this unit. I just hope that in the future Fractal will add Effect Harmonizer to use. Because if possible, my AM4 will become a very complete device for me. Which I'm a little surprised why there is no effect. This type is attached. But I just hope that in the future they will add it.

Post-Gig (second gig with AM4) report...

Last week I did 2 external drives and an external Wah. This week, I decided to incorporate my HX Stomp and the external Wah.

This was much easier to use in a live situation. Every thing (except the tuner) was a single-button FS press to get to everything I needed. It also gave me many advantages of my Stomp in addition to the AM4 (better parameter control over some effects, multiple parameters incorporated into my lead sound, better in/out arrangement allowing me to control my monitor mix with a separate volume control and leave FOH feed alone, etc...). Same great tone as the first go-round, with a few exceptions. Having the AM4 in the loop of my Stomp enabled me to place Stomp FX pre- and post- AM4 which helps a lot.

I used the same amp channels as last weekend, but made a few tweaks. I think I need more low-end and need to tame the highs a bit, but other than that the AM4 was fantastic sounding.
  • Always on Reverb and two Delays (a short slap-back that was always on, except for during solos, and a longer, more saturate delay that comes on with my Lead Boost).
  • I used a drive in the Stomp (pre- AM4) that I think should have been EQ'd a little differently (or a different drive altogether).
  • Chorus was from Stomp
  • Auto-Swell was from Stomp,
  • Lead boost (with midrange bump, level bump, high-end attenuation, and different delay) was from Stomp.

I DID use the AM4 amp boost feature a couple of times, i.e when coils were split, or when I needed a quick bump and didn't need the added features of the Stomp's lead boost.

Still work to do getting use to EQ'ing the AM4. One thing I've noticed... when using Helix in the past, I tried very hard to tweak OUT the "mushiness" or over-compression and soft feel. With AM4, I need to tame that a little to make it blend into the mix a bit nicer. The feel of the AM4 is other-worldly compared to other modelers I've used. It feels just like using my amps. I think I've been so used to the softer saggier feel of the HX stuff, that I am not yet used to having that immediate feedback when I play. It's better, I just have to get used to it and EQ my stuff a little differently.

A couple of pics and a 12-song 10 min video of clips from some tunes last night (bumps, warts, clams and all) to showcase the various tones.

Again, I'm using Two Rock (Two Stone J35) for Cleans and overdriven amps (Channels A and C), JTM45 for an "edge of breakup" amp (channel B), and Friedman BE (Channel D) for the heavier stuff. The drive I used on Stomp was a KoT clone (Tone Sovereign model)... I may need a bit less gain or a darker sounding drive. I'm happy with the Two Rock stuff (clean and driven), but the highs on the JTM need taming and I need a darker, less grainy tone from the Friedman. All this is for my own personal taste.

Thanks for the review! Great write up and help me to setup as well
You guys have a very good singer!

Yet another version of my board. Loving the HX One as it makes the AM4 so much more flexible, especially with Midi. I have the AM4 loading in different effect presets from it via the Midi scenes send feature. Is like having an extra block for the AM4 but not being limited by effect types with Channels. Since I have it at the front end, using it to load Drives, Chorus, Pitch etc. Love stacking drives again like I was doing on my FM9.And now have my POG Pitch sound back and a Poly Capo if needed:

I'm still waiting for my AM4 to arrive (we're waiting on the first shipment to the distributor here in Australia), so I've just been reading the manual, and thinking about how I want to do things. But looking at this setup you have, and the amount of inputs on the back, I'm struggling to understand how you're able to use all this stuff. I was under the impression that to use something like just one of those ampero switches, you would have to use both exp inputs, like this:

which would then make it impossible to use an expression pedal (I have the same one as you, hurrah!). And yet I see you using two of those, the ampero control, and the expression pedal. And then you're using the HX One as a pedal in front of the board, but also using the midi in/outs for it. Mind if I ask how you have all this stuff plugged in?

The Ampero Control midi controller (4 switches) has two more TRS inputs that support two more 2 button switches. I am running all 8 switches off the Ampero via midi. On my AM4 I am only running one of the pedal inputs for the Volume pedal, so technically I could still run one more single button FS off the AM4 if needed it. On the Ampero Control all of those switches also support hold functions to send a second command if you want, but use is limited. For example, on one of those external switches, I am using for Tap Tempo, but if you hold the switch it goes to Tuner mode. The Ampero Control also has full midi in/out/through to hook up multiple midi devices. The only thing I can't do is get midi clock sent to HX One since the AM4 is will not send Midi clock.

Ah, ok, I saw multiple things going in and out of the midi controller, but didn't know what was what, obviously. So that's plugged into the midi in, what about the midi features of the HX One that you're using? How is that accessed?

For the HX One, the AM4 is sending effect preset load midi commands as needed by scene for AM4 presets. I also have one of the Ampero footswitches set to cycle through like 5 presets on the HX One to load as needed, and then I can turn it on/off via the HX One directly. I could set up to load and be on already but don't really need that at this time and it would add more complexity. What is cool about the HX One is it has that flux second fs feature too so I have set as a second version of the preset. Like on the KoT I have both the yellow and red channels of the real pedal.

Thanks for taking the time to lay that out for me. I have to admit, I don't really understand what you're doing with the HX One yet, I've never done anything with midi at all, but that's ok. If I do buy one in the future, I'll worry about it then.

Any concerns with noise, tone suck or latency with the HX One?

I was worried about the noise issue I read about, but mine has not shown that problem and I am running it in true Bypass and haven't experienced any issues with tone suck yet. Each preset has its own noise gate, but I keep that kind of high and out of the way. I hav e only had it a few days and haven't used it live yet but seems like its going to work for my use, which is the one off effect.

RockBoard Tres 3.1, (2) Dunlop enclosures repurposed as expression pedals (one spring loaded for Wah and another for input volume). Underneath, a MXR M242 Iso-Brick Pro 10-output Isolated Pedal Power Supply is taking care of the AM4 and all other power needs. A blank MOD panel on the back with powercon, (2) locking 1/4" for guitar input and line out to stage cabinet, and an XLR out for FOH. I have Squareplug right angle connectors and a right angle 3.5mm connector (for MIDI) coming so all the wiring is tight and the board and remain plugged in to put in its hardshell case!
How do you setup that Airstep to control AM4? I tried to google but no video tutorial anywhere...
Very beginner on Midi things

First I needed to make (or buy) a MIDI DIN to 3.5mm connector to go from the AirStep to the AM4. The AM4 will see Program Change and Continuous Controller messages at its midi input. The AirStep app is very configurable. Programming it depends on exactly what you want to do with it and the AM4.

Hi everyone,
I see that many of you use MIDI controllers with your setups. What affordable and battery-powered MIDI controller would you recommend? I am looking for something simple to use without needing external power.

I have seen the M-VAVE Chocolate Plus and it seems to be the one closest to my needs.

Sorry if this is slightly OT. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
