🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

I've decided against it. I already have a Nano Cortex that has 7 blocks and sounds fantastic. It also has a huge library of captures so there's no shortage of amps. We'll see if I find a used one down the road sometime.

Gotta ask about the GUI: what was the thought process behind choosing the parameter "bars" vs the "virtual knobs" on the other editors? I much prefer the virtual knobs, this is giving me flashbacks to accidentally changing parameter values while scrolling on the Helix / HX Stomp / Pod Go editors!

The new Helix Stadium lets you choose knobs or sliders.

AM4 just like VP4 has virtual knobs on the basic panel of amp / cabs and effects on editor etc. The sliders are for expert edit mode on editor :) To me they are fun to use just as much as knobs!

:fire:One big-time achievement that might appear to be minor, but opens up a potential advancement in the VP4: The Amp-select by pressing 2 + 3! To me, that's just huge, but also highly sensible and practical.

I would LOVE to see that integrated on the VP4 to transition between Effect Mode and Scenes directly instead of multiple footswitch selections (A+B > Selection). That would be such a welcome feature on the VP4. The FX8 had this with one of the 3 utility buttons, and it was one of those things I have missed so far on the VP4.🙏

Even better, connect them digitally and incur no extra latency!
Excellent point, Leon! Thank you. I haven't played around with S/PDIF since back when I had a hardware DAW, but that makes perfect sense.

Suffice it to say, the AM4 has now skyrocketed to the top of my list for a near-future gear purchase.

Wrong. And that's part of the problem. There's no thought of the market outside of their core market. Not a great way to be sustainable. There are a massive number of people that run stereo pedalboards into stereo amps. Lack of a stereo input and stereo amps/cabs is a huge miss. This is basically an FM3 in a smaller format and only 4 effects blocks. Shockingly stupid product planning. L6 Stomp amp modeling is good enough in a mix and it's $100 cheaper with stereo I/O. You can get two Tonex One's for $300, and their V2 amp capture tech is frighteningly good.

Those 4 blocks include the amp/cab, so unless you have no amp then it's 3 fx blocks.

On the insert send and return, if I use a stereo insert cable like it is shown in the manual, can I use a mono Reverb in a pseudo dual mono Way, or will it sum my stereo field?

Yeah? According to AI, "The Fractal Audio AM4 is a high-range audio interface used mainly for mixing and mastering applications."
Obviously we used different prompts, your AI reply didn't mention anything about number of amp but AI answered me this which is a different number if you go to the AM4 manual.

"All current-generation Fractal Audio devices (Axe-Fx III, FM9, and FM3) use the same core amp and effect models (over 320 amp models and over 400 effects)"

But I just ordered the device to see for myself. Thanks.

BTW, just to be completely clear, one of my primary reasons for desiring something more along the lines of the FX8, is simply for the ability to select more than 4 scenes. There aren't that many songs which can't be done with 4, and I can often find ways to get it done in 4 (RUSH Limelight being a strong example where 5 is useful, but it's very possible with only 4).

Something I would love to see, is an effects-only recreation of the incredible synth preset for When the Streets Have No Name. But obviously, that would have to run in parallel somehow.

I truly think that both this AM4 and the VP4 are wonderful devices. It's clear to me that lots of planning went into both.
