🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

*yet. I would think it would be added in the future.

The choice of effects was so that you couldn't overload the processor. Running a Reverb and a Plex plus the Amp block would exceed the processor's bandwidth.

Engineering is all about tradeoffs. It's a constant juggle between price, size, features, power consumption and performance. As such, no product will be perfect for everybody. In an ideal world DSPs would use no power and have infinite clock speeds. Until then products will have to make compromises.

At some point we can revisit the effects inventory."

Congrats on the new hardware drop! I'm happy with my OG FM3 so I don't need it. This looks like a wonderful solution for those on a budget but still want Fractals epic af tones. $700 is a steal for the amount of functionality, versatility, and TONES you get. Amazing y'all! 🔥

I think people are assuming because the AM4 is $700 and the FM3 is $1000 that they somehow compete in the same market segment and that the FM3 is the obvious choice. But the FM3 is a 40% price increase, is harder to integrate into existing pedalboards due to the IEC power port and its general bulkiness, is less portable, and is meant to be an all-in-one solution. The AM4 is focused on being Fractal's "Amp in a pedal" solution, and throws in effects for value-add. But the focus is on providing Fractal amp+cab tones to your existing pedalboard.

Also, the FM3 is 6+ years old at this point. Naturally floor solutions are going to get more powerful and more compact as time goes on and hardware gets better.

If it doesn't make sense to you, then that's okay! You're probably not part of the target market, which again is totally fine. But there's a market here for this thing and I have a feeling Fractal's gonna kill it.

The Pitch block must be a monster resource hog.

I'd argue that it was a solid home run, but for a too-small customer segment. It also came too close to the line between 2nd gen and 3rd gen.
Then you are basically arguing with Cliff... ;)

Several signs lately seem to indicate you are too deep into superior hardware and superior algorithms...
Ideally, you also have to bring the sounds people want and the project has to be commercially rewarding.

Evidently, we know the FAS standards are mostly superior. You are also allowed to make mistakes.
You are also thanked to have risked the FX8, undoubtedly making many very happy.

I didn't see it in the manual, so this is a very niche question, but can it load IR's in the same way that the VP4 would? My use case for this would be my electric guitar fly rig OR my acoustic guitar rig, for which I like to be able to blend in a microphone IR in parallel with the amp block turned off. Doable? Or does the amp block always stay on no matter what?

If it's in the manual and I missed it, I do apologize!

If it can do both things, this pedal is 100% for me, as someone who mains an FM9 II Turbo with multiple expression pedals.

Yes, there are 256 user cab slots for external IRs. And the Amp section can be disabled.

Yes, real-time pitch shifting does.

Also, INHO it's not realistic to assume that the smaller and cheaper AM4 will inherit everything from the larger and more expensive units. You get what you pay for.
And if 2 products are the same... what's the use? AM4 seems great for people wanting Fractal quality at a lower price and can gig with more basic set of effects. The full fledge units for everyone else I guess. The AM4 kinda fills the gap between VP4 and the more complete FM3.

Completely happy with my FM3, but if I were gigging downtown Crashville, it would be awesome to chuck this into the front pocket of my guitar bag and go. Could happen, I guess....
