🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

I’m not particulary the target audience since
I’m too happy with FM3 right now but I really love the footprint and four button layout and surely hope that that will be something we see in next gen floor modeler! 👏🏻 Congrats! 👏🏻

If I didn't already have the FM9 and the Axe-FX III I would be purchasing one of these. Even still, the small size and impressive feature set make it tempting. The more I read about it the more I can see how well though out the AM4 is. Killer!

I had the FM3 at one point but sold it to my buddy who was interested in getting into Fractal stuff. Have been on the fence about replacing it for years so I knew the moment this dropped that I needed it. The FM3 was always almost small enough, and even if this isn't quite "single stomp box" compact, it's small enough. Can't wait

So you are saying that all of the VP4 effects will be added to the AM4 over time? Do you know this 100%? If so, what's the point of an VP4?
It may be a viable possibility, but it could ultimately depend on end-user demand. Keep in mind that this is only the early phase of the AM4 platform; numerous features and capabilities could be introduced or expanded as its lifecycle progresses.

The Cab is built right in too the amp block. There’s also a tap-on/tap-off solo boost without needing a separate block. The UI is very streamlined—similar to what we did on the VP4 with basic and expert edit modes. Quality-wise, the AM4 is straight-up Axe-Fx III level.
You'll sell A LOT of these!! Congrats! The bang-for-buck is off the charts, and the interface is a great improvement.
Looks like it fits 2 rack spaces as well.

Unfortunately, I can't replicate what I do on the Axe-Fx II, and the III is too large, so I remain on the II.
I didn't imagine after more than a decade the Axe-Fx II would still be the pinnacle of Fractal capability crammed into 2 spaces, but that just shows how great and how relevant it still is!

For anyone who cram what they do into a single amp/cab block and 3 other blocks, The AM4 is The Way.
I may have to get one eventually as a backup and stripped down Axe-Fx II portable.

That said, I still long for a 2-space variant of the III.

Plaistow, NH – November 24, 2025 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Fractal Audio Systems, the premier innovator in guitar amp modeling and effects processor technology, announces the release of the AM4 Amp Modeler.

The AM4 brings the sound and capabilities of Fractal Audio’s top-tier processors to the most portable, easiest-to-use format yet. Built on the same algorithms as the flagship Axe-Fx III, it delivers industry-leading amp modeling, powerful speaker cab simulations, and a suite of legendary stompbox and studio effects.

Key features include Amp Mode with four foot-switchable channels per preset, one-tap boost, 104 presets—each a complete mini-rig with four scenes—plus gapless switching, a precision tuner, balanced outputs, a stereo insert for outboard gear, two expression pedal jacks, S/PDIF I/O, MIDI, 4×4 USB audio (including re-amping), and more—all in a compact, rugged, pedalboard-ready steel chassis. Free AM4-Edit software provides complete visual control of presets, amps, cabs, and effects from your Mac or PC—plus guided firmware updates as future releases expand and improve the AM4.

Unlike amp pedals that lack versatility or compromise on tone, the AM4’s amp models deliver the uncompromising sound and feel that make Fractal Audio the choice of top professionals everywhere. These aren’t static “take-it-or-leave-it” captures, but true component-level physical models — over 240 in total — that respond and feel like real tube amps at any setting. Simple controls mirror the original amps for authentic tone shaping, while a hidden Expert Edit menu unlocks creative options even beyond the limits of analog gear.

Integrated directly into the amp block, 45+ classic and modern guitar and bass DynaCabs™ deliver highly realistic speaker tones with an intuitive interface that allows you to position virtual mics in real time—making it fast and easy to achieve a desired tone. You can also load your favorite Impulse Responses (IRs), from Fractal Audio or third-party creators, using the UltraRes™ User Cab system for maximum flexibility. A built-in room option adds ambient dimensional sound without requiring a separate block.

World-class effects are a core feature of the AM4. It includes 75+ drive pedal models, dozens of delays, all of Fractal Audio’s celebrated reverbs, and 150+ effect types across chorus, compressor, flanger, phaser, EQ, wah, tremolo, and more. With all this, the AM4 is a gig-ready platform in its own right—but it also plays great with third-party pedals, processors, and of course our own VP4 Virtual Pedalboard.

With great tone, versatility, and power, the AM4 can replace a locker full of gear—saving space, weight, and expense. In short, there’s nothing else like it: the sound and features of Fractal Audio’s top-tier processors—refined, streamlined, fun, and inspiring to play. With pro-level connectivity, uncompromising build quality, and Fractal Audio’s proven commitment to excellence, the AM4 is built to be a top performer, now and for years to come.

Thanks M@-man, just ordered bro!

So, how is it different than an FM3? Which is more powerful (I'm assuming FM3)

I guess more people want to know. I asked the same kind of question in post #347. It's still confusing to me.

The only thing I understand so far is that the layout is different and that the AM4 has less effects (no pitch block, which is a pity) and that the AM4 is smaller and a bit cheaper. Are there more (major) differences?

I think this product looks great, I don't understand why so many feel like this threatens or replaces a FM3. My average FM3 Patch has 8-10 blocks in it. That's just not possible with the AM4, I still think it's a neat product and could see myself using one for backup and rehearsals, but I'm more in the market to upgrade from the FM3 to the full Axe FX

My first feeling was that it was kind of an evolution of the FM3 but after I read/learned is more of a "stripped down" FM3, which is not bad per se, just different. Same here - looking forward to a future upgrade of the FM3 (next gen whatever it is with all amps, fx, etc) than the AM4 (although it's not out of the equation to buy one for current backup).
