Plexi lovers... What other amps do you enjoy?

Yeah some of those early JMP 2204's were a bit different. They're closer to a Plexi with an added master volume than a JCM800 2204. They didn't have cascaded gain stages between the high and low sensitivity inputs like the later ones did.

I love the Fender Deluxe-non reverb 1x12 combos. They have a cool 'blown out' character to the distortion. Vox AC30/Matchless DC30 are always fun too.

I use Cameron CCV 2A as main Marshall tone, but assigned control switch to Saturation. It's always on (it should be for this model). When I need Plexi'ed tone, I just disable Saturation. Sometimes I go even further and use another control switch on Input Trim to switch between 1 and 0.5 to get into clean territory.
I don't ever need Drive on this amp, just assign another control switch to Boost.

With this little trick alone I get most of the Marshall tones I ever need from one channel, and get to use three other amp channels for other options.

Input trim is the secret weapon to getting great tones out of the Cameron CCV amps. My personal favourite is 2B, but 2C does an even better job at lower gain kerrang-y tones.

Input trim at 0.5 gives you the input level of using the low sensitivity inputs on Plexi's. You can also roll that guitar volume knob back. The Plexi models clean up beautifully that way.

Super Verb for southern rock and rootsy stuff, citrus RV50 when I need something thicker but still raw, Brit silver for glorious rawking

Today, after a few hours of adjusting different plexi, I went back to the Plexi 100w high modeling. It is simply brilliant. Of course, there are all the others, but today would be that day again.

There's something in the low end about the Friedmans that I just don't like.
Agreed on the FAS version of Freidman's, they don't translate. The real Jose has a better Plexi circuit than all his other offerings! More gain with out sacrificing note clarity

Is the Friedman Jose modeled yet in the FM3?

Technically, the Friedman BE circuits aren't the same as a plexi circuit.

This is not a BE circuit. I'm guessing your not familiar with the Jose amp?

The best way to come close the new Friedman Jose is dial in a Plexi and be happy with the bedroom tone you will get

Yeah, I'm quite familiar. I've built several 1959, 2203, and JTM45 type amps. For some reason, I was just assuming the Friedman Jose was built off of a BE type circuit.

This morning I've been playing the Plexi 100W 1970 and it's a great sounding amp! I just want to play it.. Only the cabinet and reverb are extra in the settings and I don't need anything else.

Finally got back to the SLO100. Never loved it in FAS modelers before, but I used the SOLO100 DynaCab this time and it is glorious. Its very different from my other amps, so I hope it will work on gigs alongside them...
