VP4 with FM3

I tried to search for related threads but nothing really came up. I am contemplating adding a VP4 to my FM3, but also thinking it would be best to just switch to FM9. Is there any of you who have experience or could compare the two options? Cons and pros?

Following - one day I plan on either adding an FM3 or selling the VP4 and getting an FM9. The VP4 gets all of the effects that the AX3 does if I’m not mistaken.

I use a VP4 with my FM3 and I absolutely love it.
I use the VP4 for drive, wah and pitch. the last spot not yet decided.
I just like the idea of having a board on the floor and my amp and cab in the FM3, away from harms.
I try out a LOT of presets for inspiration and it is just easier this way.

I used to have a FC-6 with a Digitech drop, but now I only have a VP4 with an Mission EP-spl on the floor.
Might add a small 2 button footswitch for preset up and down.

In this setup, the only downside, is that the FM3 does not have Digital input (S/PDIF).

I really hope future next gen units all have digital input and outputs, its the "pro" thing to do.

Even the other direction is in Turbo. VP4 has both, so then it's possible to combine them.
Digitally, the VP4 will always need to be at the end of the chain.

The VP4 is amazing in that it can handle 4 drives with 4 scenes each, making it the most versatile GAIN machine on the market—16 drives in a single preset at our disposal!

Unfortunately, in an FM4 + VP4 setup, it can’t be placed at the beginning of the signal chain digitally.

I usually use VP4 for post effects, so when FM3 arrives it doesn't really change the way I work. In FM3 I open things like compressor, overdrive, amp and cabinet. Post effects, delays and reverb are opened in VP4.

I use my FM3 with the VP4 and love the combination. I initially had it connected using the VP4's digital SPDIF input and it worked great as a post effects pedal. Then I discovered connecting it, (VP4 manual P21) as an insert was perfect for me. Just by changing a preset on the FM3 I can now switch the FM4 from post to pre effects and its going to stay in this connection arrangement for me.
I think the combination of FM3 and VP4 is a really good option and means changing up to a FM9 is really unnecessary at least for my needs.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the Insert connection method for the VP4 also provides stereo output which is a plus over the 4CM mono connection.

not even in the turbo version?
On the FM3, the "Turbo" designation only refers to the CPU speed bump. The "Mk II" refers to the scribble strip changes. There have been no other changes to the unit according to Fractal.

Leon Todd has a nice video showing how he connects his FM3 to the VP4 via SPDIF and uses MIDI to control them both.

I should also try that insert setting. I've kept it connected via Spdif so far and it's been perfect for me. I've never had to worry about FM3 CPU% again because I can't get it too high because VP4 handles the post effects.

Lower CPU% is one of the big advantages of running the VP4 with your FM3. Insert mode means you can run the VP4 pre or post whereas SPDIF limits you to post and I also consider stereo out and advantage over 4CM's mono out.
All I can say is VP4 Insert mode works great with the FM3 and more people should try it out. The user manual shows a little diagram down the bottom of how to make presets for both pre and post. Once you have it loaded its just a press of the foot switch to change between the two.
