Had some time this morning, decided to film a quick video on this, Tones, update/comparison of tones between 9.01 and 10.0 BETA and an overview of new stuff

my highlights:
-pitch shift on reverb
-amp response/feel updates
-new compressors and fuzzes / drive block
-UI changes (dyna cab UI is really nice now)

Hey Paul.

Great video. I went straight to the 3min mark to hear the 9.01 to 10 differences and was staggered to hear how much different they sounded.

FW10 had was less fizz and crackle in the high end and the mids and lows are much smoother and clearer - also with audibly less fizz an crackle.

I haven't heard a difference like this in a FW change in a very, very long time.

Curious, are you hearing such obvious audible differences too being the one doing the test in the room ?

thanks 🙏 for that same reason I was glad I made the video, best way to compare the before and after on tones especially with modelling updates/changes

there was less fizz going on it seems , more definition to the gain tones and clearer/tighter in the process, this was a lot clearer listening back to the recorded tones after

the initial impression was that it's definitely tighter/clearer , the video confirmed that

only thing to watch out for is the Input Pad setting post firmware update, for some reason it dropped mine to 6 from 12 , i put it back to 12 as it was clipping the input (In1 clip warnings) when i first loaded it up

Seems like CPU usage is down in general abaout 4% (except for the new revernbs and comps)?
yeah that seems to be the case, i didn't really try the different reverbs here, but just trying out say spring with some of the new settings is a chunky bit of extra CPU

happy about the 4% cpu reduction in any case, i was expecting a 4-5% increase

I am also noticing the high gain sounding and feeling better. Maybe tighter, but more chuggy? It is hard to describe. I have been liking the feeling of my ToneX better lately, but this update might have swayed me back to Fractal, lol.

Thanks for the video. It would be great if you could make a comparison with the compressors too. I’m finding they’re very different and a lot more agresive.

That's a good way of putting it, I'd say tighter and clearer sounding as well, Tonex sounds dangerous 😄 I've got a tonex one in fairness, some great captures on there

Thanks 🙏 I'll need a closer look at those, I don't typically use compressors much, usually boosts instead depending on the tones I'm going for

Names changed with the update and I guess maybe some other things under the hood, so to get a familiar response it might mean some more relaxed settings be it with ratio and attack/release settings where possible, but I'd need to experiment

This comment right here pretty much definitively says I have useless, tin ears. I'm not actually disappointed at that, since that means I should largely be happy with damned near anything . But I played that section, listened, and was like "man, I really can't tell a difference".

Kids: protect your ears. Tinnitus is the gift that keeps on giving.

I love the ToneX stuff, especially when you turn off the cab and put it through a solid state poweramp and cab. I find it has a very tube head like feel. That is something I struggle with on the Fractal units, but I was able to dial in a very nice sounding, and feeling, tone on Ver 10 yesterday. Better than I was getting on 9.02.

I am really liking the new Reverbs as well. The Gold Plate sounds very good. I am actually finding my CPU % to be lower than before once I reset the blocks that started at 100% dispersion.
