In what configuration are you going to use your VP4?

would love to hear about other good relay switchers! I'm only switching between 2 channels on either a Friedman Be100 or a Marshall 2000 so my needs are fairly basic at this point.
Nice amps! I was going to suggest the Suhr unit as well. The Pirate Midi one looks nice too. I’m sure there’s a few others I haven’t thought of.

I used to use a Voodoo Lab Control Switcher with my previous rig. It has 4x 1/4” outs so I could change channels on my Silver Jubilee and channel/eq/reverb on my Mesa Studio Preamp all via MIDI.

I eventually downsized my rig and sold the VL unit. I have no complaints about it - no issues, super reliable, etc. It might be a little overkill for what you currently have but it certainly would work.

So far... directly in front of my FM3. I wish the FM3 had a S/PDIF input.
I'll probably give the 4CM a go at some point, with a Laney IRT-Studio.
I might stick it in front of my Fender Champ 600 soon, just for kicks. :)

When you say 2CM do you mean in the loop or in front of the amp?

I've also heard good things about the Suhr.

sorry, just in front of the amp I meant!

That's what I was wondering.

Is there any real advantage to using the 4CM putting drive blocks in front of the amp with reverb and delay in the effects loop instead of just having it all in front of the amp?

Is playing mostly clean vs. using gain tones a significant factor in this?

With respect to tube amps generally front end effects like LFO's, Drive, Phaser, Flangers sound better before the preamp, time based effects are cleaner in the loop!

I am a high gain player. I found with the FX8 that 4CM yielded better results noise wise because I needed a gate block post-loop to keep things under control. with the VP4 (and with similarly high gain tones...like slayer levels of gain) I'm not finding 4CM necessary so far. I don't know why. the input gate seems to be sufficient. better signal design than the FX8 maybe? whatever the case, I'm loving the additional simplicity.

Depends on the amp. The passive loops in matchless /bad cat stuff are a pain in the arse. And they need buffering and gain staging. It is so much better for EOB guys with drives in front to just run everything in front.

But I was a metalhead once too. And that won't work for that. 😎

VP4 > Ethos Clean Fusion Deluxe (cab sim out) > VP4 (both VP4s eventually to be set up with a MIDI controller)

Also will be running 1 VP4 in 7cm with the Simplifier MKII. (currently, I use the FX8 or Line 6 HX FX with that, since it has a stereo loop and stereo outs).

After using the Synergy for a while which is a really good unit, I think I'm going to go this route for now! I have one of the VP4's in rout along with the Tone King tri tube. I need to off a few more pieces of gear to get the other VP4 and Live Logic Midi controller. I'm hoping this will work out pretty good.

Plan was, sort of still is, supplement FM9T as both a pre- or post- depending on need (patch) using both of the SPDIF I/O's on each unit.

But since I got it and did a quick test with my FM9 I've been using it all by itself using a small DAC headphone amp that has SPDIF input and one expression pedal (Mission SP-1).

I could see myself gigging, if I still did, in my mid 70's now with a crap tone of health issues - me and wife both, with just a VP 4, a light weight clean solid state amp like my Cube 80GX, and an expression pedal or two - one dedicated to volume the other for mainly wah but also rates, depths, or delay time or feedback - as needed. I've haven't needed the "wall of amps" sounds and distortion since the 60's when I thought I was Hendrix. More of a jazz guy these days with some "classic rock" thrown in.

I'd have killed for a VP4 in the 60's! Love this little unit and I've said that in other posts.

Funny my FX3 has sat lightly used since I got my FM9T, now it seems the FM9 might sit less used with the addition to my floor of the VP4.

Edit - I'm seriously thinking of buying a second VP4. The first as the "addon" to my FM9T as originally planned, the second as a small stand alone "rig," or practice unit, as described above using a small DAC headphone amp. Then I can keep it in my shop where I can put down my elrctronics projects or reloading efforts and relax with some nice low intensity jazz with a touch of reverb, delay or a little (very little ) this or that fx.
