Fractal Audio AMP Models: Revv (based on Revv Generator 120)

You can do it onboard or use a pedal, lower the gain on the amp, and add blue aggression to give it an edge. I’m also using bright and cut but not the fat switch on the purple channel. Red aggression is too much if boosting in front.
yup, for me, bright + cut + blue agression with gain at noon with low output pafs it’s where it’s at.. at least for modern metal, which seems to be the best genre for this amp

Still would love to see the “cut” switch modelled but it appears from the comments from the Revv guys that it is basically cutting some low mids and bass almost like a tilt eq
I wonder if using the amp block eq with tilt type would get close ?

it´s not cutting mids down, it´s boost to the mids. cut in this case means as a cut through the mix. not mid cut like in the diezel herbert.
I can pretty much replicate it with input eq in the amp block with freq set to 1900hz and 1- 1,5db boost. with low cut set to 110hz from default value.

Just arrived yesterday only got to plug in for a second (Revv100p mk3) but whew, it'll knock your socks off. Didn't notice any issues boosting initially personally. But I'm using Fractal as the boost in front with the Preciision Drive. Also tried by ABR OD from Tallon, basically a Maxon od, and it sounded great. Still very tight without the boost but makes sense as the P is only the tighter Purple channel. Will be doing some A/B ing, very intrigued to compare the model with the real thing

Awesome! I find the Axefx matches the real 100P very closely! The axe pushes the red and blue mode frequencies MORE than what the amp does, but I kinda like that. It shows off what they actually do (Purple 2 is blue, Purple 3 is red).

Nice, yeah the thing I mostly noticed was the amp was obviously near brand new and needs broken in a bit. Open box, got played a few times then sat. Excited to play with it though, first actual 100w tube amp after speed running the modeling thing my first few years playing, there's still obviously some real magic to playing actual tubes

Yeah my 100p sounds identical to the AxeFX model when they're running through the same IRs. Which makes owning the amp version a bit silly, but to be fair I bought it before there was one in the AxeFX lol.

Yeahhhhh like I said previously, I've never played a real tube amp until my Revv G20 and now my 100p and had been otherwise playing guitar for almost 20 years, first through little practice amps and later FM3. So I'm kinda doing it all backwards but I'm glad I got the real thing. It's still magical to play compared to the models, which sound great and spot on recorded you can't tell the difference at all. And yeah I'm running it through my Fractal into a cab block using the OH Recto IRs and it sounds incredible.

I run both my X88IR and my 100R into my axe fx and use the cab blocks. Its so easy and sounds so good.

Ahhhh badass, I was looking into that Soldano at one point but settled on the Revv just cause I wanted a real deal full on 100w head. So happy with it. Curious, do you run your 100R in 100w mode into it or 10w mode? I'm just curious if there's much of a tone difference or if it's even worth it to run it into the FM3 in 100w mode when the 10w mode sounds just as good and saturated.

100 watt into my X load, Xload into the In on input 3 of the axe

I'm curious - why not use the amp's built-in internal load feature?
Some people don't like the way the Torpedo load sounds so I've heard but that's how I'm doing it right now. Little noisy, think I've got some ground loop issues so I've got a humbuster coming right now. But yeah that's how I'm running it and how I ran my g20. Played around with the DynaCabs yesterday and got some great tones from them too but I still prefer my OH Rectos. Curious, I changed the speaker impedance over to the double note load or whatever it's called in Fractal, does that matter?

Have you at least tried it yourself to see if it sounds good or bad to YOU? It might sound fine and even take care of your noise/ground loop issue without the need to spend more money.

It’s free to try it for yourself.

Oh yeah I've got it set that way right now and TBH didn't notice much of a difference if any at all. Didn't wanna insinuate that I didn't actually try it, was more curious if there's a good reason from an Axe Master to use that impedance curve that I might not know about. Sounds GREAT to me. Running the real amp into the Fractal has been a full on life changer for me and now I totally understand the magic of playing through an actual tube amp.

I also think my noise issue might be a gating issue actually. It's weird. It's not all the time but sometimes when I'm chugging and stop, the gate won't fully close or close at all and I'm left with this screaming feedback/him sound until I hit the strings again and the gate catches it and closes. I had been wanting an outboard gate for a while so I just found a cheap one used to throw into the effects loop and see if that does the trick. The gate in input 2 is kinda primarily doing most of the work right now but still wanna try loading one from an outboard effect to try

I've wondered about the quality of embedded load features on various amps (ie: in my little H+K - may explain why Lucas chooses to use XLoad, or as you mention, maybe some just don't like some coloration inherent in the two notes). Anyway re the "Double Note Load Box" spkr curve, afaik, it would emulate a 2NoteLoadBx / Speaker interaction when p.a. modelling on + typically with IRs or SS Amp + physical cab, BUT, personally, I'm running Axefx power amp modelling off (which disables the spkr curves) when running my load box'd physical amps into Axfx since there's already a cooking power section in the tone from the loaded physical amp output (power amp modelling ON would overlay that which I don't want). Just my basement hacker's preference/2c ("AxeMaster" only because I stumbled upon the mighty Axefx many moons ago and spend waay more time posting here than I should 🤣)

Congrats on the amp! - I'd love to have one also but don't think I could sneak something like that in without my spouse spotting it. 🤣 (maybe I can swing a G20 tho!)
