So, I've had a Headrush FRFR for a while now and I don't like it...

I enjoy my 108 for what it is, small light and cheap. Not always going to want to lug a CLR around everywhere not to mention they are $1000 and hard to replace. Rather have a little powered wedge that is worth like what $100 on the used market for some get togethers, take to a jam etc.

Sound coming out of it hangs with most smaller combo amps people bring and given I’d have an Axe 3 running through it actually a better tone.

Also super handy when people say “hey anyone have a powered monitor we can borrow” for any number of things such as live voice, patio get together for playing some music etc

Totally great buy in my experiences, just get it for what it is, and don’t assume it’s going to rival a high end wedge

I am using my Headrush (1-12) as a Keyboard Amp in our practice space right now. I've gotten less use out of many other things that cost me $300.

For home use, I think the HR 108 is just fine. Doesn't sound great out of the box...definitely takes some EQ'ing. Check out the "flatten the curve" thread, use those settings as a base, and then just tweak and explore. You can get it sounding pretty decent if you just take some time to explore with EQ.

I have 2. For the price, portability I think you will have a hard time beating it.
Someone posted a global EQ to make it more flat. I am using that and seems to help nicely!

I just bought a QSC CP12 and tried it at a band rehearsal. It actually sounds really nice on a clean channel (Fender Super model), and decent on a Recto (Recto Orange I think), but terrrrrrrrrrrible on my Marshall sound (JVM Orange). The Marshall tone was very hollowed out and scooped... and I don't really run mid-scooped settings on anything.

I might take it back and try something else, as it was $600, but I should try this EQ-Flattening-Thing. I'm a little hesitant to change up my patches, or make 'mirror' patches, but I suppose toggling a PEQ just after the CAB block isn't the most terrible thing. This speaker is built like a tank!

Non compatible with the Headrush 108, 2 different things and the EV is 3 time the price of the 108!
How are they '2 different things'. If you think that is the case, then you don't understand what a FRFR speaker is.

Yes, more expensive. Just like Fractal vs. Mooer/Line6.
Quality = Cost

Not saying you can be happy with cheap solutions, but the EV is actually $100 less than the K12 (which the OP was asking about buying).

According to your very smart comment, Ferrari and Fiat are also the same, right?? after all they are "cars", correct?

Yes they are both cars. They are not different things.

(They're 10x difference in cost, so this analogy isn't going to apply, but go ahead....)

This sounds like a case of not using enough volume when EQing the preset and running into the Fletcher-Munson Effect.

Would the typical buyer who is in the market for a Fiat really consider Ferrari as a viable option though ?

I have a CLR and I have a headrush, I would recommend either of them, but certainly not for the same purposes or to the same user.

They are both speakers, and are black but hardly would say they sound the same, nor cost the same etc

No, because a Ferrari cost 10x more than a Fiat.
In the original post, the request was for opinions included a K12 as a replacement. That is a $900 speaker.
The EV that was being suggested is a $800 speaker (so actually less).
The suggested speakers are in the same 'market'.

Exactly.

@BBN: I'm referring to one thing and you "answered" on something else,
As I'm a very helpful and nice guy, here is the quote specially for you:
Non compatible with the Headrush 108, 2 different things and the EV is 3 time the price of the 108!

If it was not clear enough: I was referring to the Headrush 108 vs the EV and so are few others but you insist to refer to k12....
Hope it is clear now.

Then the words you chose may be the problem here.
'compatible' implies they are not substitutable with each other - which they are.
EV and Headrush are compatible. You can use them together, you can swap one for the other.

Maybe you mean 'comparable'.

That's how I took it in my reply and also why I recommended the EV as an alternative to the QSC!

the eq settings someone posted go along way in making it usable, for guitar at least. I'd never expect a 200 dollar speaker to be anything more than ok.

Not to pile on the poor little guy, but I was never able to get an inspiring sound out of the 108. The eq compensation curve made it sound better, but still not what I would classify as “good”. The PXM12MP on the other hand sounded great to me right out of the box.
