Bug? Switches in Pedal 2 and Pedal 3 Jacks acting strangely

Watching this thread! I have run into the same issue with my momentary switch running it in PDL-3. I have to step on and hold it in order for it to work. In either NO or NC setting it doesn't matter. Based on Admin M@'s post it seems like we are just waiting on a FW update for the fix which is good to know!

Just some info: Fractal did state that it is possible (also verified by numerous examples) to use NC momentary switches as solely tap, or hold switches. Currently, because of a firmware bug, you may not currently use both tap and hold. It's either or for now.

PDL jacks 2 and 3 exhibit errant behavior regard utilizing both tap AND hold. This applies to NC momentary switches. Other FM9 owners have said that (however it is uncertain because reports vary) NO momentary switches work fine in all 3 jacks, with either tap or hold, and tap and hold. (Don't shoot the messenger if this might be wrong. This is what others have said based on their findings, which again varies because of how folks have wired their switches).

It is also required that the wiring be TS or TRS cable, but TRS works solely for expression pedals or single switches, not dual ones.

The requirement for switches is that the polarity of the switch (NO or NC) must match what is default in the FM9, or that charging the default in the FM9 will correct the errant polarity issue.

Somewhere in the fine manual or elsewhere there is documentation that supports this. I'm just recalling what both Fractal Tech Support has conveyed to me via email, and what others have tried doing with NO/NC momentary switches.

Not technically correct. You can use a TRS cable or a TS cable with a single switch. What you can't do is use a dual switch with a TRS.

And actually, you can, but only 1 switch will work ;)
Thanks for this. I recall that dual switches could not use TRS. It just made sense for me to say, why would someone use TRS cable for a single switch? Will correct my previous post for clearer view. Thank you again.

Not really a good reason... Unless maybe you just have some extras laying around ;)

Yeah, I keep my guitar cable, string, parts, maintenance and cleaning gear in ammo cans in a footlocker. It stays out of the way of normal foot traffic, and makes a pretty decent coffee table (even with coasters) on occasion.

Am I missing something ? FW2.0 didn't fix the switch issue... Unless there is something else Im not seeing I don't see a setting for a momentary switch setting still NO/NC strill having to stand on my switch in order for it to work.

I'm planning to update and test tomorrow but there was nothing specifically about this in the release notes.

The fix mentioned related to switches 2 and 3 was another bug...

Would need to identify what type of switch you have, NO or NC?

In v. 1.0.1, my NC momentary worked correctly as a toggle, but not as a hold. Have upgraded to 2.0.0 beta but not tried assigning a hold function to either of my stand-in switches yet.

P.S. Santa is not bringing you a Mercedes-Benz to your driveway.

Ok, so you have to assign a hold function to the switch? Humm, I don't recall having to do this in the FM3 but is has been over a year. Once I set something up I usually don't mess with it again.

As to weather it's NO or NC shouldn't matter because you can always change the effect state in the modifier page. I just want to be able to step on my external switch and engage the boost function without having to keep my foot on the button.

Santa can keep the MB I'm more of a truck guy anyway! ;) Besides he's already bringing me a new Guitar 😝

Ah I misunderstood I thought it had to do with the pedal 2-3 inputs that were being discussed here.

In FM9 v.1.0.1, the stand-in switch functions were limited to either toggle or hold, but not both. The FM3 did not have this issue.

Regards assigning the switch front the front panel, yes, you must enter Set-Up > Enter > Page Right to Stand-In Switches > Select FM9 SW1, FM9 SW2 or FM9 SW3, and select the target layout you'd like. Then, under "Switch," select your function. I have my 2 external NC momentary switches set for Layout 7 PERFORM, and Preset, Select by #; and Layout 8 Utilities, Utility TUNER. Once you've assigned your switches, click exit, and this will return you to your home screen.

FTR, I've not seen that it's possible to assign a hold feature to the switches, even with v.2.0.0 beta. FAS has not yet addressed this issue and although I'd hoped they might have, this was not the case.

Arrrg! nothing like being anchored to a foot switch.

Dude,

FAS had said they were planning on solving the stand-in switch issue soon. I'm just darn thankful we got more for our money despite not filling our stockings fully.

If the FM9 was as useless as teats on a boar hog, yes, might be a problem. Thankfully, FAS wasn't as merciless as some businesses who don't treat their customers well. If you're all fired up and determined to expect everything to work for us, because "we're regulars here," I'd suggest that you relax, and ask yourself how you feel once the finalized version arrives. :)

If you answer, "Like a million bucks," I promise I won't think, "Yup, all green and wrinkled." :)
I think you might be taking my comment a little to seriously. I have been here long enough to know what's going to happen despite the minor inconveniences I might be experiencing, so what looks like a complaint is really tongue and cheek!
