4CM: Ins/Outs menu

I primarily use my FM3 through my FRFR, but also would like to use 4CM with my amp.

I have read the manual and I’ve successfully used 4CM with my amp, but I have a few questions.

The manual suggests some I/O menu changes when using 4CM, but are these necessary. What are the benefits of the changes?

Also, I’d like to be able to get unity gain with 4CM. I notice that the volume is different on my amp when using 4CM. What’s the trick here? (I’m used to this from using an HX Stomp with the “master volume” knob on the pedal acting like an attenuator, but the FM3 seems a bit more intricate and I feel like I’m missing something).

Thanks for your help!

I'm still new to the whole FM3 thing, but I've found the configuration that @Bakerman has posted about to be the most flexible, at least for my setup. I'm able to use both 4CM to my amps and also go stereo into my home studio setup using the main outs. I had a lot of trouble getting the 4CM setup in the manual to work for me.

I'm still working out exactly what I want as far as a template for building presets going forward, but here are my settings, plus my work-in-progress template preset. I actually have both my level knobs on the FM3 set to max and it seems to be working nicely.

Input 2 mode - LEFT ONLY
Output 1 and 2 modes - STEREO
Unity gain
18db Boost/Pad

OUT 2 L to front of amp
OUT 2 R to Send
IN 2 L to Return

Maybe it will help you out? Also, if anyone else would like to grab this and offer possible optimizations/improvements I'm all ears. This is a whole lot of trial and error...

The video above is the way it’s described in the manual, but it requires a special cable (XLR to TS) and you lose a lot of flexibility if you go that route. I like being able to switch from going into my amp to going full modeling just by enabling my amp and cab blocks.

Both ways will work though - just depends on your own specific needs.

I'm still trying to figure out how to switch between my real amp or a simulated amp in 4cm.
Would you happen to have a screenshot of this in edit or a sample preset?
Example:Scene 1) real amp with pre/post effects
Scene 2) Fractal amp sim with pre/post effects

I understand the traditional 4cm with my actual amp, I'm just stumped on how to bypass my real preamp and use the Fractal amp sim.
Thanks.
