Fixed [FIXED 1.04 Beta 4] Stand-in Switch does not work on first tap

1.04 Beta

After power up, the first time you tap a stand-in switch it does not work. You have to tap it again for it to work. This is true for both switches (I am using two Boss FS-5U switches).

This is only a problem for the first tap immediately after powering up. Subsequent tap or hold presses of the stand-in switch are recognized.

Hmm. Yea, I'm able to reproduce and a little more more as well. There's some initialization problems. Reported it back to the devs. Good catch.

Edit: Actually, I stand corrected -- I can't reproduce it. I thought I had it, but maybe it's inconsistent. I'm also using reverse polarity momentary switches here.

Edit edit: got it. And, honestly, I'm not sure it's a bug. With unlatched (reverse polarity) switches they present themselves to the unit the same way no switch at all presents itself. Therefore the unit would initialize as if no switch was connected and it's only on first press that it would "see" the switch and run the initial "I have a switch plugged in here now" code to poll it and respond to it.

@ethomas1013 can you check to see if you're running your FS-5U in NO mode? If yes, try NC mode and see if the problem persists? I don't have any normally closed switches I can test this with here.

i think this comes down to the switch itself like iarsee said. i have FS5U that i can make normal or reverse polarity - i run them normal. i have another switch that is reverse only. the FS5U set to normal works all the time. the reverse switch is finicky at the start.

can a machine sense a NC switch? might not be able to adjust this.

Come to think of it.....there have been a few times I have had to hit my Tuner Stand in switch twice to get it to trigger.....this is afterFM3 being on a long time.....could the polling......sleep ? Or something ?

I thought maybe I had a flake switch ....only $29.00, lol.

@iaresee

The only switch on the FS-5U is a reverse polarity switch. I guess that changes it to NO or NC. I have two switches hooked up to the PEDAL 2 jack using a Y-Cable (TRS to dual TS). If both switches are set NC the same, the tap and hold functions get reversed on one switch and the other switch works for a few clicks and then stops working. I have to set them so one is open and one is closed in order for them to work properly. But then each switch has to be tapped once for it to be recognized. Not a big deal once you know what's going on - but this could be confusing for many users.

Since one switch is closed, maybe there's something the devs can do to recognize the switch pair? Is this a problem because I'm using two separate switches with a Y-cable instead of one dual switch with a stereo cable? If I picked up a dual switch, would the need to tap for the switch pair to be recognized go away?

Anyone know of this is in the works for a fix....or can it be fixed ?
i am sure I can figure out how to reverse some wiring in the 2 banger to make it normal.

As I mentioned above, for NO switches, I don't this isn't fixable. You'll have to tap it twice the first time.

That's weird. I had a dual Boss switch a while ago and found it unpleasant to work with. Went with my own, simpler switch box setup.

Ok, so who can recommend a dual-footswitch solution that is normally closed?

I've seen a few people recommend this one. Has anyone verified it works without having to to tap each button first before its recognized?

That’s one I have.....needs Reverse polarity to work, and rhe double tap jump start.
Pretty popular Switch around here it seems.
