X/Y something/nothing

I'm new to the AX8, and have a ton of questions. But here's my first one. I want to have blocks in my chain that are something (e.g. drive, filter, tremolo), but I want those blocks to be a shunt in the Y state. When I try to make the Y state a shunt, it shunts both sides; X and Y.

Oh, and here's my second one. What is the most affective way to boost volume in just one scene, within a preset, without changing amps or adding distortion? For example, I have a Mutron type of patch that needs to be a lot louder than my clean amp scene, because I use it for leads. But I still want to use it with my clean amp setting.

Thanks!

Why make it a shunt? (You can't do that by the way)

There are a number of ways to do what you want. Yo can use the output mixer which is saved per scene, there is scene controllers and you can always just raise the level in the effect creating the mutron effect

You can't do that. Make a new preset if you want to remove a block from the grid. X and Y are different settings within the block, not removing it.

Set the Bypass mode to "Thru". Then the block will act like a shunt.

No. Simply select the blocks bypass mode and set it to THRU. Then bypass / engage the blocks for individual scenes. Switch between scenes using the foot switches.

Alternatively simply assign a footswitch to a block to make it toggle the blocks bypass mode if you want to enable / bypass a single effect.

In ax8-edit just double-click on the block to bypass /activate it

Totally--or right click. But sometimes I'l bypass in once scene, and it will effect other scenes in AX8 edit. Is that the block revert function?

In my preset with the mutron, the filter block is greyed out on the one that makes the filter sound, and the block is highlighted in the one where I've managed to bypass. I found that confusing--but its probably just me not getting something.

This strange behaviour could be the auto-engage set on some modifiers, check if it's set to off in all of them

Unless things changed when setting up a new patch by default all bocks are engaged in every scene. Once you go into a scene bypass what you want and save it when ever you recall the scene it will be as you saved it. (unless you have messed with a scene live and don't have scene revert on)
