What is sound gap between presets I keep hearing about?

Waiting for AX8 to arrive and have been an Axe FX II user forever. Any difference in sound gap between units?

I'm canceling order of the ax8 because of gap discussions I've read about. Sticking with the axe fx. Obviously it's been a concern for many.

The "gap" is only a concern if you continue playing while changing presets. It's about a tenth of a second long. It never got in my way.

i think on some of my presets, its much more than a tenth of a sec, i recommend scenes as an option, but am missing preset switching, anyway im very happy with the ax-8, its getting better all the time and i think fractal might do a little with the preset switching if possible, maybe crossfade or something :)

Apparently it's the amp block. Scenes will also cause a gap if you do xy switching of the amp.

First rehearsal last night with it and there were a number of sections where the gap was a problem. It's a huge disappointment because it sounded and felt very close to my normal rig. I will be looking into changing to non-amp-xy scenes to solve the issue.... Or go back to a real amp :(

It's much larger than the Axe-FX gap but if you pre-empt it in live situations, it's fine. It's not a giant issue.

Here are a few interesting tests for you

The bottom line is that the audio gap is real, and you either have to work around it or work with your presets to reduce it. In some cases, it can be faster to switch presets than switching scenes. The maximum audio gap, I have been able to provoke is 1.4 seconds, but then I did do a lot of stupid things to make the gap as large as possible (look here for details http://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/does-the-ax8-have-an-audio-gap.118736/page-6#post-1418617).

I think, AX8 struggles a bit with completely seamless switching. If you strike a chord and hold it while switching scenes or presets, you will often experience some sort of audio gap or audio artefact. Sometimes, it is completely seamless, but not as often as I would like.

I'll await for the ax8 mkII whenever that occurs. I don't care about the cost. I'd rather have the real axe fx inside with full power and possibly mfc101 layout. Just my preference.

Well, not necessarily. It completely depends on your part. Sometimes preempting is not possible - meaning you have to change either the part or the patch. I don't like using equipment that dictates what I have to play musically.
