U2 is now officially a Las Vegas lounge act!

So playing in lv is not a negative imo, most venues here in bay area are are not desirable places to go for music or anything for that matter. a lv residency allows people to experience and quality performance in an safe and fun environment. lv is is a fun place to visit and see shows imo.
I’ve noticed several bands skipping the Bay Area now. I have to drive to LA or Sacramento for some bands. And maybe LV is next. :)

I think you guys missed the point and also points brought out in the video by Rick (did you even watch the vid?). Right now they are just a caricature of U2 with a replacement drummer doing a lounge act in LVNV.

My only commentary is that I perceive it as a little sad and it cheapens their legacy, that's all.
Yeah, I have to agree with Beato on this one. Not being able to wait until LM Jr. Is healed and ready is what really blows it for me. I don’t think any of them are standing in any bread lines. I’ve always been a little hot and cold about U2 anyway. On one hand they have couple great albums, the Edge is cool and one of the grandest concerts I ever saw was them, but many times Bono is just…well a #2 and high on the Couric Scale.😆

Also, living on the East Coast and having no desire to visit Vegas turns it into a non consideration.

Not arguing that, my comment was based in the fact that a lot of older entertainers wind up in Vegas and getting old really sucks!

Ha! Honestly I thought he was dead, He is playing the Morongo resort in April! only reason I know is I saw the billboard on the 10fw on my way to Home Depot. I guess when you have outlived the crowds in Vegas you land at the Indian casino resorts, oh well you have to pay the bills somehow.
I thought he was dead, too, but when I was in Lost Wages for work in September, I saw a billboard advertising his show!

I believe that what's left of the band will eventually succumb to the rift created by LMJ's absence and we will see competing versions of the Band, one retaining the rights to the band name known as U2 with Edge and Adam with a Bono wannabe and the other known as 'Bono's U2' featuring Doktor Avalanche from Sisters of Mercy. These acts will make appearances on the Indian Casino circuit and a variety of county fairs.

A bunch of BS. If the drummer isn’t healthy enough to play and he gives his blessing who’s to second guess?
I suppose if there’s people desperate to pay large amounts of money to see an incomplete version of U2 then you have a point. Considering blowing large amounts of money is what Vegas is all about it’s fitting.

Saw Celine Dion in LV @ Ceasar's - awesome. Would def take in U2 if I was there and it didn't cost an arm+leg. Doesn't bother me if they replace Larry with a competent stand-in - now replacing Edge, that would be another matter

Agree. Also, a little research shows that U2 is headlining the opening of a $3B venue under construction since 2019. They can't really wait on Larry to get better and still satisfy that obligation.

Apparently the manager they just fired was responsible for a contract that makes them legally obligated to play the Sphere when it opens.

Larry almost called quits years ago because of back issues. Then someone suggested a stool with a backrest and he said it helped so he continued playing. Obviously after so many decades of playing, it’s something he can’t ignore anymore and needs surgery.

Vegas is a great idea. With a huge band like U2, hopefully it’ll be easier to get tickets to a show since they’ll be staying in one spot for a while. No Taylor Swift TicketMonster debacles. Bummer about LM Jr. but doesn’t seem like it’s about the $. And Beato just needs views for his wallet so…

If you read the details about the gig, calling it a “lounge act“ situation is laughable. Also, according to some sources, they're getting $10 million for a series of shows that have been booked for a long time, so the show must go on, fill-in drummer or not.

My buddy just sent me a pic of the Fonz from Happy Days jumping the shark. I was like “huh” be he was referring to the album they are releasing where they recorded a ton of their old songs.

What I have heard so far is unlistenable. U2’s past few albums have been bad enough. Now they have re-recorded all those classic songs but the arrangements and sound is as bad as their most recent albums.

Now Vegas??? I can look past that but put the two together and I am out.

Not sure Elvis sunk this low.
