Cab-Pack 5 - UltraRes™ 4x12 Collection

IMHO, one of the best things in the 4x12 UltraRes Cab Pack is the ....

1x12 TripTik cab.

Sounds really great. Very dry, wooden tone. Works great with all my favorites amps: AC-20 Deluxe, Friedman BE and Tucana.

It has a Scholz Classic speaker. This is a fullrange speaker. Which is probably why this speaker is sometimes compared to an EVM 12L (which has an extended frequency range). But it isn't a flat frequency speaker. Would like to see its frequency response graph.

The stock mixed cab already is very nice. Even better is one of the IRs from the full Cab Pack, such as the SM57 Cone.

Hey guys,
Kevin Antreassian from Backroom Studios here. Just wanted to say thanks for the interest and I hope you like all spots we picked for the IRs. Please let me know if i can help out with any questions.

Do you know what speakers are in the Mills cab and type of greenbacks in the TV?

What I like about OH's latest High Gain Essentials is that they're very clear and transparent in tone. Can someone give an opinion about these ones compared to OH HGE?
Smooth and warm is good for me up to a certain point, but I seem to prefer clearer and more transparent Cabs. With OH Mixes I tend to go for Mix 0-2 so you get an idea of what I'm looking for...

Just played through every cab in the collection!

First impressions:
-ORANGE CAB KILLS OTHER CABS! (Citrus) "4x12 Citrus 57 Cone" alone sounds great.
-Mesa's were pretty good but there are so many Mesa IR's out there. No disrespect here but not the best Mesa IR's I've heard.
-TV was a small let down since I think the TV IR's we had before were better. Actually the Lerxst was a more pleasant Greenback 4x12 cab for me at least.
-Mills... well it sounds broken to me so it's probably not a V30 speaker right? :)
-5153 is a really interesting cab. It has no presence frequencies almost like it has a high cut at 7kHz. I think the CapEdge SM57 by FAS and not Broderik was the best IR of this cab.

Could comment on each cab but that covers the most important first impressions I guess. :)

I have to agree with Clark on most all of his points, although I have yet to try the Orange cab. After Clark's latest impulse offering, I think he really knows what he's doing with impulses and I value his insight.

These IRs are really nice, but I was unable to find any that I enjoyed more than any of my OwnHammer High Gain impulses. I think OwnHammer has really spoiled me, because under normal circumstances, I think these impulses would be really good.

I did the ol girlfriend test last night… “Honey… Which one sounds better to you?” When I go back and forth between impulses and she doesn’t even think before telling me which one sounds better, then you know there was an obvious winner.

More impulses are always a good thing though.

Just to give those that haven’t bought this pack a tip on how these impulses sound… The best way I can explain it is they sound almost clinical. I’ve been incorporating impulses derived from a tube amp lately and I’ve come to appreciate the way they sound with the Axe. To my ears, they sound more round/smooth/organic, more overall pleasing with the Axe. But that’s just my own personal opinion, and maybe that's the primary difference I feel/hear comparing against these impulses.

Thanks man! It really means a lot coming from you. :)

I've got to say that I'm having a hard time pairing the Uberkab IR's together. Because there's two different speakers. I used to just mic the v30, but I'd like to get the G1275T in on the action too. I find them either really dark or really brittle, not getting the best out of them so far. Really love the new Recto mixes though.

Is there something like the Petrucci mix v30 in this pack? Tested the new Mesa irs in the new fw 15, but they sounded very different compared to the good old Petrucci v30...

Credit where credit is due. Your last IR that you gave away for free was almost identical to my primary go-to impulse which is not free. Serious props to you on that one.

I also respect your perspective with many of your threads where you've gone against the grain in the pursuit of perfection of the Axe, even in the face of a lot of adversity on this forum.

You're winning me over Clark. ;) Keep it up!

I don't know what happened with that impulse, but IMHO, I have found it sounds nothing like Petrucci's recordings. I think it's safe to say you won't find many impulses in this group that sound anything like that impulse, and that's a very good thing!

Haha... I think it's all about where the motivation comes from. I'm sure if I was making a product just to get money it would suck. I'm simply searching for a "perfect tone" that I want to use and I don't need anyone's money for it. Capitalism will ruin everything just like what it did to the porn industry. Who pays for porn nowadays? And does it get better when you pay for it? No it makes you a creep. :lol

I liked these cabs a lot but seriously compare them against my free IR's. There was no competition for me at least but that's just me and my IR's. :)

Compared and FAS wins for me. This is both dropping into already tweaked presets and creating new ones.

I also have my own IRs and for my presets are perfect.

I'm not using these for multitrack recording though nor am I playing industrial progressive metal so that is a huge part of it.

The best sounding IR I have done to date was using a few cabs from this pack mixed with Cab Lab, then one of your Ir's in a Stereo Cab block, to me it sounds better than anything I've done to date.
