65 bassguy Firmware 19.05 - Low harmonics overtones problem

Probably ghost notes. NMV amps with lowish filtering do this all the time when turned up past a certain point, as I learned the hard way a while back. This is completely normal amp behavior, unfortunately. Lots of master volume amps with higher power supply filtering (like the Brit800) won't do...

    Big Problem With Noise!

Dimmers are the worst. They dirty up your AC power and throw off heinous interference. I had a single dimmer in a room located on the other side of the house from my studio--like, literally forty feet away--and the noise it threw off whenever somebody used it was truly awful. It made anything...

AX8 vs Axe FX II pros and cons live use

Axe-FX II - Pros: Global blocks. If I need to tweak the volume of my solo sound, I can do it in one preset and it works everywhere. Two amp blocks, which means I can seamlessly crossfade or switch between different sounds with no audio gap. Lots of horsepower, so I can do more with one...

    AxeFX + XiTone

I use a Xitone wedge as well, and it's great. The coverage is particularly nice--I played a gig this summer with a small PA that the sound guy didn't want to run anything through but vocals, so I just put the wedge on its end on a stand behind me and got great stage coverage and "FOH" sound from it.

Help with cabinet simulator while using a real poweramp and real cabinet

I use a Royer R-121 to shoot IRs of my cabinet, and those are typically the only IRs I use. I've got one IR in particular I like and I use it across nearly all presets. So what you're going for should work. :) It takes a modest amount of fiddling to get the mic in the right position for the...

    Help with Boxy Plexi

Depending what you mean by boxy, it might be that all Plexis have that to some extent. They definitely have this kind of woody thump that could be construed as such. I find that most boxiness can be gotten rid of by cutting 400 Hz or thereabouts.

    Low end punch problems

    Acoustic through AX8

A great mic sure helps, but if you have access to even a decent mic, you might like it. I really dislike that piezo sound, so in my case I'd probably prefer an average (or worse) mic than the straight pickup.

    Acoustic through AX8

What he said. I also use a cab block with an IR of my acoustic guitar, captured on an Axe-FX II, and that really helps with the realism and virtually eliminates the piezo quack. If you have the ability to shoot an IR of your guitar, I can't recommend it enough.

AX8 vs LR Baggs Venuefor Acoustic work

I use the AX8 with my acoustic. Like a lot of folks who have posted, I don't need a ton of effects, but I do need a delay, a reverb, a tuner, a preamp, an eq, and a lead switch, and by the time I've put all that together, it would be a pedalboard about the size of the AX8 and far less tidy...

    Best routing(output1 + 2)

Are you using the amp block in the preset in front of the real amp? If power amp sims are on, I'd imagine you have a lot of highs and lows piling up.

How many traded the Axe Fx II for the AX8? Thoughts and why?

I picked up an AX8 and will probably sell my Axe-FX II after I get a few more gigs under my belt. The AX8 is easier to transport, easier to work with the foot controller (because it's not a separate unit), and I really appreciate the UI, especially the dedicated knobs and the graphic reminding...

Guitar Brightness – Raw Tone vs Album Tone

My experience is that mixed albums are a lot brighter than I'd normally dial up. I can't count the number of times I've dialed in a great guitar sound and really liked the sound on playback--and then I brought up some recorded reference material and the treble about tore my head off in...

    First show with AX8

Glad to hear everything was visible outdoors! That was a concern of mine I haven't had to deal with yet. For most presets, I leave the high and low cuts alone. However, for my Komet 60 presets, I pull the high frequency cutoff down to about 7k. My actual amp has a hi-cut knob that I use a lot...

    First show with AX8

Yes, yes it is. :) I really like the Xitones, too. I have a wedge and a regular rectangular cab, but it turns out that the wedge is more practical for me. Anything I'd use the rectangular one for, I can just tip the wedge on its side. They sound pretty similar, though, so I might try running...

Played my first show with the AX8 last night. Also my first show using FRFR monitoring instead of a traditional cab. 4-piece band in a cozy little venue. Random thoughts: 1.) Load-in was awesome and easy. I had a little dolly with two guitar cases on it, my monitor (Xitone wedge), and a bag...

    Changing rectifier type

What's a good way to simulate changing a tube rectifier to a solid state rectifier? Mess with the B+ time constant? Change to DC power supply? Something else? The nice folks at Komet modified my Komet 60 to use higher filtering and a solid state rectifier module, both in order to reduce ghost...

Better distortion. Amp vs Drive pedal?

If you're just looking for a volume boost, you could use a filter set to null and raise the block's output volume. Or use a volume block, or something like that. If you just want more volume without a tone change, why use a drive?

Analog Fuzz/OD Pedals after Fractal FX blocks. Possible?

Many fuzzes should work fine in the FX loop--I've used some that way (Earthquaker HoofReaper, for example) with no trouble. If you have one of those fuzzes that needs an unbuffered connection to the guitar though, I don't think you're gonna have any joy with the FX Loop. But you might as well...

Can anyone recommend me a travel guitar?

Strobel Rambler. https://www.strobelguitars.com/ They're full scale length, well built, and designed so that the neck pops off with thumbscrews. Very playable and you can jam them in a very small space. I have a Classic. It sounds like a weird cross between a Les Paul and a Strat, because...

CPU Maxing an XL w/ HQ and Ultra Res Amp/Cab/Verb and a few effects

Aside from reverb and the ultra res blocks, drive blocks tend to eat a lot of CPU. Since the amp block runs on a different processor, could you replace one or both of your Drive blocks with an amp with the sag in the power amp turned off? Or instead of using two drive blocks, use one with...

    AOTM - Bogner Shiva

Minor nitpick: I don't think there's an EL84 version. I used to own an EL34 version, though, and it rocked. The amp is famed for its clean sounds, but I loved the dirt channel. I also rarely played the clean channel straight clean--cranking the volume on the clean channel put a little hair on...

Amp List by Type/Class, ie., High Gain, Mid Gain, etc.?

I think the problem here is that one person's "mid-gain" is another person's "sweet Jesus this has too damn much gain." It's not like there's an objective measure, and the potential for confusion is pretty high.

Virtual Pedal on a Real Amp

Have you plugged it into the amp? Without a real cabinet or at least a cab block filtering the high end, distortion will create a whole lot of very ugly, buzzy-sounding stuff. If the actual amp isn't handy, you should put an amp and cab block in the preset while you set up the effects, and...

Studio Recording...anyone still w/ mics on cabs and tube heads but still own an Axe?

Yep. I get a little more "life" in the sound from miking a cabinet, and I'm not sure why. I've convinced myself it's not a placebo, though. The last time I made a rigorous comparison was pre-Ultrares, though, and I've noticed in contexts outside the studio that Ultrares IRs feel and sound better...

    Axe-Fx II Firmware 15.00 Released

It's amazing--has a totally different vibe than the Celestions I'm used to. Nice clear highs, not boxy like some 1x12s can get. It goes great with the Triptik or with an old Hiwatt head I've got lying around.

Is a Cab IR for acoustic guitars in the signal chain necessary / preferred

I run my acoustic's piezo to a tonematched IR of my acoustic miked, because I really really dislike that piezo quack. It works fantastically well. I've used the same tonematch for the piezo output of an electric guitar, and it works okay. I haven't found the tube pre to be all that useful in...

    Modifier ON OFF question

It's tough to use an expression pedal for this, and I hear what you mean about the IA being hard to work.
