You can have them change names on the footswitch screen. Go to your layout and you can set the switch to show you both the name and the active channel.

You can change the scribble strip name if you have two scenes set for one foot switch. Also, the foot switch LED is customizable.

I have my effects layout set to show me the short name of the effect, ie DRV, as well as the channel, so my chorus button reads CHO 1A when I am on channel A which is my main chorus sound.
