Which of these would sound better?

So here's what i currently have -

Randall RM50 50watt combo amp w/6l6 power tubes
Avatar 2x12 cab w/eminence modeling speakers

Would i get a better sound and more headroom by running the axe fx into the effects loop of my Randall and essentially using that as a power amp, or should i spring for a solid state rack power amp and sell the Randall to pay for it? Oh, and this would be for home recording monitoring, not gigging.

SS would be a better choise for the home but if your recording why not just go direct and keep the Randal?
