I use a rack setup now and everything goes into a mesa boogie 20/20 and into marshall cabs w/greenbacks.
my question is would it sound better through a pa system or a poweramp /cab and is is good through direct recording too
thanks for your imputi have some guitars for sale too so i can buy my axe fx i the for sale section.

Only you can decide which sounds better. I believe the FRFR setup is the best but many people here prefer to use an amp with a guitar cab to get that "amp in the room" sound. The drawback to that is you are limited by your cab.

I only do direct recording. I don't mike anything, even when playing live, I go direct
 
FRFR stands for Full Range, Flat Response or some other statement along those lines. Think of a great PA system or stereo. One of the more popular solutions here is the FBT 12ma which is a self powered wedge monitor with a 12" coaxial driver.
