What to use as a base for a custom MIDI controller? Arduino? Raspberry? Something else?

Hi guys. I'm getting rid of my Behringer FCB 1010 because of its huge size and impracticality. (Plus, I don't like how the expression pedals feel). I have an old Icon G-board lying around that I can use as a starting base, mostly because I like the size and feel of its shell. Of course, I'd need to discard its current electronics and start from scratch, keeping only its shell.

I've been watching and reading so much about DIY MIDI controllers that I feel a little bit overwhelmed. What platform do you think works best for a MIDI controller for a fractal? Which one do you think is easier to set up?

I would like to announce my AxeFX control library:

This is a 100% complete implementation of the AxeFX III 3rd party MIDI spec.

So far I have tested it with my AFX3, and it is based solely on that. The 2 has different messages and I don't have one to test with.

Implemented are:
  • Preset change
  • Preset increment/decrement with rollover
  • Scene change
  • Scene increment/decrement with rollover
  • Display preset name and number
  • Display scene name and number
  • Effect channel change
  • Retrieve list of effect blocks with...
