A friend sent me that video, and it was interesting to hear Tim's comments. You'd be hard pressed to argue his points, or that he doesn't know what he's talking about... obviously he does. This is one of the reasons I say it's good to have whatever floats your boat, and that having modelers and tube amps and pedals and speaker cabs is all useful and complimentary gear. It's a shame that the internet vibe is so either/or, this vs that, instead of celebrating how great it can work together. Right tool for the job, and all that.
Tim uses modelers too, and likes them! He's got an FM9 right next to him in his personal studio setup, next to all his amps, pedals, and gizmos. So, for the studio call he goes simple and accessible because speed is king. In his studio, he uses whatever he wants because he has time, and the time belongs to him. I love that it's all tools to this guy, and he uses what works for him without apology. It doesn't hurt that he's a great player too.
