Single Coils - Staggered vs Flat Pole Piece

When I built my 2nd Warmouth superstrat, I wanted to get a Surfy tone from my middle and neck pickup. So I got SD Surf Antiquities. They had a vintage stagger and I didn't know any better. Later in life, I realized that staggers were totally inappropriate for my Warmouth compound radius neck. I bought a set of flats for 1/4 the price and have been riding the waves ever since.

For those who don't know, he means Warmoth, who over the years have a lot of my money.

It is missing the point about fingerboard radius, which is important.

Being a Strat guy all my life, I prefer something like Fralins hybrid staggered. I use the Blues specials and they do NOT have that ridiculous Empire State Bldg G pole, among others. But they aren't flat.

I use Lawrence L45S and L90-4H in mine - flat dual-rail pickups. Original neck was a modern 9.5" radius, but has been replaced with a Warmoth neck with a 12" radius.
