Shopping for individual FRFR speakers (sans enclosure)

I've started looking into this as I may want to do a custom enclosure at some point. It's pretty overwhelming - I don't even know which brands make good speakers and what I should be looking for in the specifications. Please suggest some resources or give me a run-down of which companies who offer speakers by themselves are worth looking into and why.

Frequency range immediately comes to mind when thinking of what is actually important in a FR speaker. What is a good range to have? Are there other factors that are equally/more important?

If I were you, I would buy a comercial product and start enjoying it right now  .

Do you have an idea of what it takes to design a real FRFR system?

I'm not building it myself; in fact, I was looking into RMC. It's just that they will put any speakers in there you want and I need more information before making a decision like that.

I think most real good speaker cabs use speaker that are custom made for the enclosure by a specific manufacture of their choice. For instance Carvin uses a speaker made by Celestion for one of their monitor cabs and FBT uses B&C for their Verve cabs.

The two need to work together by design so mating a speaker design that works well with a box design is the key. Of corse then you have crossover and power handling to worry about. If you know the specs for one you should be able to get the other close enough to work.

Heres a link i found doing a quick search http://www.homerecordingconnection.com/ ... tory&id=32 may not be the best but you get a general idea.

Choose between one of these two speakers.

The first one has a crossover available for it (the XO-3 I believe) It is heavy but it is kkkkkkkiiiillllllllleeeerrrrrrrr. The second one is light and more expensive because of the neodymium magnet...

Pick one of these, or even better the 15" version and you will not believe it. They are expensive, but they probably are the best. Run about 6 or 700 watts into them and you can do no better. A nice small footprint and loud and clear and refined. I will try to find a link for the port sizes...
