Re-amp no USB

I have read about re-amping using the USB connection. I thought I would try giving this a try without the USB. I just run a dry signal from the AXE FX 2 with the FX loop and a wet with output 1. I then used the dry channel out from Cubase and ran back into the AXE FX 2. I did not seem to have any issues with this method. Is this a recommended way of doing things or am I going to find a difference between doing this and the USB method?
 
I'm going to do the same thing since my Presonus firewire to Cubase connection doesn't play nice with the AxeFX II USB connection.
