Problem with Axe-Fx III to Win11 PC USB Connection - FIXED! Don't Update UAD

Petrocelli

Since two Days i have big problems with Axe-Edit III (1.14.19) connection to my AxeFXIII Mark II (FW29.01).
I am on Win11 24H2 and had zero problems before.
Axe-Edit connects and shows the actual Preset in the Grid, but the connection is extremely slow - on Startup Reading Preset names is about 2-3 Sekunds per Name and it is finished with reading Preset and Cab names about more the 30 Mins!!!
I recognized it first during jamming that the Axe-Edit window was frozen!

I tried:
  • switched PC and AxeFX off and booted them new
  • different USB Cables,
  • different USB Ports (I have also an extra USB Card in my PC),
  • reinstalled Axe-Edit,
  • reinstalled the USB Audio Driver
nothing helps!

If i use my FM3 with this PC, even with the same USB Cable and Port it works totaly normal as ever.

Strange is, if i connect my AxeFXIII to my Win10 Laptop, it starts reading preset names as fast as usually!

So anybody can give me a Tipp what to do?

After more ten 30 Mins of scanning Program and Cab Names it looks like this and i can do nothing with it!

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice but I don't think that Windows 11 is the cause. I have a desktop PC and a notebook, both running Win 11 24H2, and Axe-Edit works fine on both.

Yes, i upgraded my PC from Win 10 to 11 one month ago and all was fine with AxeEdit! But since 2 Days i can't get it to run without problems!
I also don't think it is a W11 problem, because my FM3 Edit works without problems.

Any chance that a setting in your AxeEdit III is different than in your AxeEdit FM3? I

A second thought, and ts been a while since I was in the workforce, working on PCs, but I might try downloading a fresh (even though the same version) of AxerEdit III, and see if by chance that resolves this issue.

Wish I had something specific that I knew would resolve for you. Best of luck.
Cheers,
Lee

I've been having the exact same issue with Axe-Edit only I'm on Windows 10. It seems to have started after I updated my UAD console software. Axe-Edit functions normally until I boot up the UAD console and then it slows to a crawl or times out.

Thank you, i have also an UAD apollo Twin. But nothing changes in axe-edit performance when i deaktivate my apollo!

I found something strange in the Windows "Device Manager" under "FAS USB Audio Devices":

As you see im German as my Windows is...! This is was Google Translator says for you:

"The device settings for USB\VID_2466&PID_8010\5&38e97a59&0&12 were not migrated from the previous operating system installation due to a partial or ambiguous device match."
There were some Windows 11 updates the last days in my system!
But i don't realy know what to do - i try to deinstall the FAS USB AUDIO DEVICES in the Device Manager

So i uninstalled the FAS Device Manager entry and also uninstalled Axe Edit, did a Win11 restart and then did a new installation of Axe Edit but sadly its the same problem! :sleepy:

Hast du auch "ausgeblendete/deaktivierte" anzeigen lassen und diese auch gelöscht? Treiber vorm Neu installieren deinstalliert, oder nur drüber gebügelt?

That gives me an idea: there is this tool called "usbdeview". It allows you to remove USB driver residues without leaving any traces.
https://usbdeview.com/

Turn the Ax-Fx on, start the software, look for the drivers which are labelled “Fractal Audio” or "Axe-Fx" or the ones which are clearly connected to FAS and click on uninstall (right mouse button). Then restart your PC and reinstall the drivers again.

Its a driver, not Axe-Edit issue. Uninstalling from the Device Manager will reinstall in the driver that was already installed on the system that was causing issue. Uninstall the driver from Control Panel, not device manager. Download the USB driver and reinstall. Possible this was said already as I no hablo German. Edit: I just downloaded the new driver and it will update the old driver so no need to uninstall/reinstall.

Also, I just upgraded from 10 to Windows 11. I had the current driver installed and it appears the upgrade may have gone to a previous version.

Thanks for your help, but it didn't work!
I uninstalled Axe-Edit and the FAS USB Audio Driver, checked with Usbdeview, found some other AxeFXIII things and uninstalled them there, reebooted PC, controlled again with Usbdeview. Then Installed Axe FX and FAS USB Audio Driver and switched on my AxeFX - sadly the same:
AxeEdit gets immediately a connection but its not possible to do anything with it - it tryes to do and then comes the timeout for the action!

Is there any chance that the following might not have been installed:

Axe-Fx III USB Firmware Update v1.17?

I think I read you installed the USB Driver for Windows, but I just happened to recall that when this USB Firmware update came out, I forgot to load it, and everything in life slowed to a crawl. It’s probably not the case, since this AxeFXIII behaves well with your laptop, but it’s easy enough to check, just to rule out.

Edit: I didn't refresh my browser, before posting. Totally missed that @Zedhed beat me to this point. ;)

The event log is always full of warnings and errors. Its primarily just for system admins to have a better visual orientation what to pay attention to. So its not necessarily something dramatic. Also its a warning and not an error.

Also always uninstall via the app manager not device manager.

You can also reset windows so you dont have to completely re-install it. You also dont have to reset everything and can choose what to keep during the reset process.

Just checked, but unfortunately there is no system restore point before the Axe-Edit problem! I'm terrified of resetting my PC, that's really the last option I want to use. We will see how big the pressure of suffering will be that I have to do it, but I still hope for an easier option!
But Thanks to all for your help
