Preamp input boost VS drive block

I try to understand how the boost are set in the preamp input boost compared to the drive section.

for example, if you choose T808mod in the input boost, what are the pedal settings?

even with the drive at zero in the drive block, the T808mod doesnt sound the same

what is the philosophy behind this preamp input boost compared to boost your signal with pedals?

The Drive block will also give you the dynamic range and clipping aspects of the pedal, whereas the input boost is just clean gain + EQ.

A TS, for example, even with the drive at 0 and no audible clipping still introduces some dynamic range compression due to the limits of the opamp operating at 9V. It’s also worth noting that EQ curves of many drive pedals shift (to varying degrees) based on the position of the drive knob- it will be very difficult to get a 1:1 match between the drive block and input boost; but that’s not really the point.

Long story short, the input boost will give you the EQ benefits of the pedal but provides a more immediate guitar/amp interactivity due to the amp’s input getting your guitar’s full dynamic range.
