I've used both the Roland/Boss guitar synths VG-99/GP-10, and the Line 6 Variax's. Both do the alt tuning thing which I think is very cool and useful (to me at least). I don't have either anymore though. I do miss having that feature. Not possible with normal pickups as has been stated above. Must have a seperate pickup per string to pull this off. Not something FAS or most other modeler companies are going to do. It's also a niche market. Most guitarists won't be caught dead with a hex pickup mounted on their guitars ( "I can't put that thing on my guitar - it's so uuugggly!!). We're a stodgy and traditional leaning bunch as a group overall. The market for this isn't big enough to warrant the substantial resources that need to be devoted to it so most companies can't or won't go out on a limb to develop and support it.
