Passthrough external audio source

Is it possible to pass an external audio source through the AXE FX 3 using one of the instrument inputs? I'm thinking about times when I have my AXE connected to monitors and might want to play a backing track but don't have a computer handy/connected.

I tried plugging into the instrument 2 input then connecting that to output 1 via the grid but the volume was mono and extremely low.

If you have an iOS device you can play back audio through the Axe-FX using a lightning to USB cable. I do this with my iPhone and it works pefectly. Alternatively, plugging into any of the stereo inputs should allow audio passthrough as well, but you may need to pre-amplify the signal. Bear in mind that plugging into one of these inputs will require a suitable stereo connection to the inputs.

Yes; USB or input 3 > mixed signal

Make sure your input block has the volume level set correctly

Also -10 db or +4db?

(I do it all the time)

Well, yes, but I would not play it through the instrument input. Instead, I'd use input 2 (first choice, or 3 or 4)
You'd need only add one block to the current preset for this to work, shown highlighted below.
