Not a Bug Output 1 Mode does not affect USB audio?

I'm running my FM3 into a single wedge from Output 1 L and would like to play along with tracks from my iPhone. I've set Output 1 mode to SUM L+R hoping to hear both sides of the USB audio. Unfortunately that setting only seems to apply to the signal coming from the grid because I'm only hearing one side of the USB audio. I moved my XLR cable over to Output 1 R and confirmed that I then hear the other side of the USB audio. Is this a bug or is it the intended behavior? It seems logical that this setting would apply to all audio being routed to Output 1.

I gathered that, I guess my question is should it or why doesn’t it? When playing mono it would be nice to be able to actually hear both sides of the USB audio. I can run both XLR outs to my wedge if I have to, but it would be great if there were an output mode that would do this.
