Newbie in 2024: Suggestions please!!!

Hi all, just picked up one of these second hand. Came with the MFC-101 foot controller. So far so good. Everything seems to be working as it should.

The firmware is Ares so I left it and didn’t reinstall it. I reset the parameters. Reinstalled the stock presets. Axe Edit and Fractal Bot seem to be playing with my Mac which is on Sonoma 14.5

Any other MUST DO things before I start creating some presets?

Seriously, reading the manuals is a good idea.

Be patient, use your ears, ask questions here when you need help.

There are a lot of really knowledgeable and helpful people on the forum, although most here have moved on to the newest generation of hardware so there's not as much of a user base for the Axe Fx II these days.

You can get some great tones with the Axe Fx II regardless of that. Welcome!
 
Adjust your input level so that hard playing "tickles the red" and you'll be all set for proper gain staging. I absolutely love my II XL.
 
I recommend using Yek's amp guide, and at first only using the knobs that are actually present on the real amp.
