LPD Tone Clone - AxeFxII V8 High Res TMA Test Green Day

So with the advent of V8 Cliff has so wonderfully given us the High Res TMA block. As a test I thought I would do some Green Day. Partly because I have always loved Billie Joe's guitar tone and partly because it's about all I can muster and not stress out my tendonitis :) I have heard he has a penchant for older great sounding Marshals. For this match I did some testing between the resolution of the new High Res TMA and Ozones matching EQ. As far as I can tell they are on par with each other. I personally loved the outcome of this match. I honestly think I like the matched tone better than the original in both of these cases. I used my Fender American Standard Plus with a Duncan Custom Custom pickup tuned down to Eb like the recordings.

I had the stems for these two songs so I was able to do a full mix.

Unfortunately, we will have to wait for a functioning V8 Axedit before I will be able to share this preset.

I love yer stuff, but the left and right simultaneous thing doesnt REALLY let me hear differences, am I supposed to use headphones? Ideally it would be original all, then axe, like others have done, imho. but sounds good as usual.

Sounds great Lawrence. How are you finding the Hi Res TM in comparison to the Lo? Significant dif? Take care of that tendonitis.

In this case I could have done the original first then Axe thing because I did have the stems, but usually I dont have the stems.

Usually all you have to do is pan left to hear the original then right to hear the axefx. I find it to be the more immediate way of checking tones since you can listen to both simultaneously or switch easily from left or right and hear both tones in context.

The main reason I do them simultaneous left right is because aural memory is realistically only about less than 3 seconds and it diminishes greatly within that 3 seconds. Being able to click left then right without stopping the player allows you to hear the two without a lapse of memory.

I do appreciate the feedback!

I am finding the new High Res block to be very useful. I would like to find out what the resolution actually is. I know Cliff said it's twice what the original TMA was. IIRC the original was 512, which would mean the High Res is 1024 which is still only half the resolution of the high res cab block. Meaning it may be possible to get better matching results with a high res matching EQ and IR conversion for cab block. Maybe someone can chime in on it. I did do a side by side comparison with the Ozone Matching EQ (the one most tout as being the best) and there was no difference in frequency resolution that I could see.

Thanks for the well wishes on the tendonitis! It's getting better slowly. I got lots of good advice from the Tendonitis Management thread, so now it's a matter of time.

Here's the main reason I LOVE that he does it this way - the oft-repeated (and absolutely false) knock that "it won't stand up in a mix with a 'real' amp"

I listen to Lawrence's clips and think... "hmmm, holds up pretty well in that mix...and that one... and that one... " ;) :D

All of the tone matches you have done with v7.+ sound perfect to my ears, and the left and right is great because of the for mentioned reason. I only need to wait a few more days... :D:D:D

BTW the original track is the left and the LPD track is the right. Give a listen and see if you can tell the difference in tones.
