I picked up the AM4 for my grab and go rig, something simple for the occasional open mic night or impromptu jam where my AxeFXIII & FC-12 rig is just overkill. It’s setup mono and to be run into the FX return of whatever backline is available.
I’m using the insert point for a chorus pedal and a delay/reverb pedal in mono to free up the AM4 for the amp model and front end effects.
Didn’t take me long to realize that the AM4 makes a great practice rig for home, allowing me to leave my AxeFXIII rig at our rehearsal space more often.
Mono in headphones sucks for practicing so I would unplug the pedal board insert cables and use a simple preset with a delay in it, or put my Strymon Big Sky in the insert loop for stereo.
Here is where the lazy part comes in.
I really hated unplugging those insert cables to get back to stereo. I know how trivial it is but still hated it. So I built a simple bypass box from parts I already had on hand. Now I just flip a switch and voila, insert point is bypassed and I’m back to stereo in the AM4. I also added a stereo/mono switch for the loop jacks so I no longer needed ‘special’ cables to have mono in both channels when using the insert point in mono.

Here is the ‘schematic’ (be kind, this is not my day job LOL):

I’m already planning revision 2 with a second selectable loop for when I want to plug in my Big Sky, as this version requires me to unplug cables to do that LOL. I just need to order a slightly bigger enclosure, I have plenty of jacks and switches in my project boxes.
I know this was completely unnecessary, but I had the parts and my OCD got the best of me.
I’m posting it here for my fellow OCD tinkerers. It was fun to build and adds a nice custom aspect to my pedal board.
