Impro over "Need Your Love So Bad" with a Gibson SG & Häüssel Pickups

Black Bitch

Fractal Fanatic

My neighbor and music colleague has now installed the Häussel pickups, which I had removed from my Les Paul, into his Gibson SG SE from 2009 Made in USA and they sound wonderful in the SG. They also sounded good in my Les Paul, but the sound was a bit too thin for me. I like my Doug Aldrich pickups from Suhr better.

The pickups in the SG weren't bad, but a bit matchy or mushy. Now the SG responds beautifully to dynamic and makes a very clear and defined tone.

I didn't actually want to make a video with the SG, but in retrospect I thought the recording was good because I played freely without using my head and just let the sounds tumble out because I was so excited by the sound. I tried all the pickup positions and recorded a longer passage with a lot of gain in the middle, but unfortunately it was a bit lost in the mix. The more clean tones cut through better because the playback was just a means to an end and I couldn't remove the piano voice as a vocal melody.
