How to change channel on Dual Rec using Voodoo Lab Control Switcher and Midi Block

Hi Friends. The 3 channel Dual Rec has the 4 external switching jacks. I have a Bestronics Multi 5 pin cable plugged into Multi out of Voodoo Lab Control Switch. I have midi cable plugged into Midi Out of FM3 and into MIDI in on Voodoo. Multi out of Voodoo to 1/4 TS to each of the Dual Rec channels. MIDI block in FM3 is where I'm not sure what to. Do I use a CC or PC? What values do I assign to actually change channels of Dual Rec? Thanks for your expertise here.

According to the manual, which is here:

You can use either PC or CC messages.

See the section "USE WITH OTHER MIDI CONTROLLERS" for using presets (PC).

See the "Setup" section for more details on using it with CCs.

Also, see the section on enabling/disabling PC/CC on the Control Switcher. I suggest only enabling whichever you plan to use.

Personally, I would probably use CCs but either option can work.

Make sure you set the FM3 to have Send Midi PC off if you're using the Scene Midi block to send PCs for channel selection because otherwise the FM3 will send it's PC every time you switch FM3 presets.

Also, if you run into issues, contact Voodoo Lab. They have pretty good support and I seem to recall more than one person here having issues with getting the Control Switcher to work properly even after factory reset.

Hello again. So, I had the Control Switcher working, but then it stopped working. I was trying to call Voodoo but Ben is out today. Does anyone know how to set up the channels on the Control Switcher. I did a factory reset. Do I need to establish Midi Channel 1 on the Control Switcher? And, then which simultaneous buttons do I press to assign the channel switch, ie PC midi ch 1 to be Ch1 on the amp. Thank you for any info.

Update. We figured it out! I'm inputing it here in case it can help someone else. After Factory Reset (see the Voodoo Manual) do the following:

1. Ensure PC Mode is Active
The switcher must be configured to respond to Program Change messages.
  1. Apply power to the Control Switcher while holding button #1.
  2. If LED #1 is ON, PC mode is enabled. If it is off, press button #1 to turn it on.
  3. Remove and re-apply power to save this setting.
  4. Now the Control Switcher sends midi on Channel 1
2. Configure the FM3 to Send PC Messages
You must ensure the FM3 sends a unique PC number for each scene where you want a different amp channel.
  • Scene MIDI Block: Add the Scene MIDI block to your preset grid.
  • Assign PC Numbers: In the block settings, for each scene (1–8), assign a unique PC value (e.g., Scene 1 = PC 1, Scene 2 = PC 2, etc.) and set the MIDI channel to match the switcher (default is Channel 1).
  • Global Setting: In SETUP > MIDI, set "Send MIDI PC" to OFF. This ensures the FM3 only sends the MIDI messages you specifically defined in the Scene MIDI block, rather than its own internal preset change messages.
3. Program the Relay Combinations (The "Sync")
Now, perform the following steps for each scene/channel on your Mesa:
  1. Select the Scene: On the FM3, select Scene 1. This sends the PC message (e.g., PC 1) to the switcher.
  2. Set the Amp Channel: On the front of the Voodoo Lab unit, manually press buttons 1–4 until your Mesa is on the desired channel (e.g., for Channel 1/Clean, usually all buttons are OFF).
  3. Save: Press and hold button #1 and button #4 simultaneously on the
    Control Switcher
    until the LEDs blink.
  4. Repeat: Switch to Scene 2 on the FM3, manually set the Voodoo Lab buttons for your Mesa’s Channel 2, and hold buttons #1 and #4 to save again.

I guess this can also be done assigning a Control Switch to the Midi channel somehow right ?
So you can switch the amp's channel ALSO regardless the scene with a dedicated button... and don't need to setup each and every scene of the whole world but just couple that CS as ON/OFF (from its Scene dedicated page).

Just thinking, I will try this out.

I will receive the Voodoo Lab switcher this week so I'm studying this in advance...

You can use Control Switch midi to send CCs and/or PCs (on demand) via a switch.

You can use the Scene Midi block to send CCs and/or PCs on scene change.
