How do I switch ext. midi gear with the MFC in Axe FX mode?

Hi all.

Working for two weeks already and cannot get this to work. So any help would be welcome!
Set up:
The MFC 7 pin out to Axe FX midi in, MFC in Axe FX mode. Axe FX midi thru to external effect.
When the MFC is in Axe FX mode, the external effect switches along with the presets.
When the MFC is in Axe FX mode, the external effect does not switch anymore.

According to the MFC manual on page 14, the MFC does not send pc messages in Axe FX mode. So....

How do you switch external gear with the MFC in Axe FX mode??
