How are Gapless Scenes and Presets Possible?

My AM4 has been amazing since I got it. Exactly what the doctor ordered.
But this is something I’ve been wondering.
How is Fractal able to do gapless presets, scenes and channels with only a minor hit to DSP while all or most other modelers require a huge DSP hit (up to half of DSP) for gapless action?

I have a limited technical background, so can anyone explain the reasoning?

Gapless switching in Fractals does use some CPU but not much. Also, the AM4 has some serious horsepower built into it.

I doubt you'll get an authoritative and detailed answer on how they do it, because that information is proprietary. You can search the forum and/or Wiki for "gapless" and find out everything we know.

Are there companies that still have huge gaps switching? I can see spillover being tougher. Thought pretty much everyone had gapless switching once Boss got it into a more affordable device but perhaps I'm just taking my Fractal gear for granted and a bit out of touch.

Not so much scenes, I was more wondering about gapless presets and the ability to offer gapless channel changes which is unique to Fractal as far as the major modelers go.
QC doesn’t have gapless presets. Helix Floor offers gapless presets at a cost of half of all DSP, not sure about the new Helix Stadium.
I had a Fender TMP for a little and I always suspected they were able to do gapless presets because they reserved a good chunk of DSP for that. I’m basing that on hitting DSP limits pretty quick on larger presets. I could be wrong.
Not trying to knock these other companies, but it was just something I’ve always wondered.

Fractal Audio is not like other companies. You can observe non-stop dedication and innovation in many aspects of our products. While others are busy blowing sunshine, Fractal Audio invests in its own tech. No illuminati. No magic. Just years of hard work. Sorry to shut this down but that's all there is to it.
