Global Power Amp Bypass - not working? Help please!

Can someone help me out here - isn't the global power amp bypass supposed to bypass all the amps? So if I have a JCM800 patch with a bunch of fx blocks, I select global power amp bypass and all I'm left with is the fx (and cabs which I'd also globally turn off).

Mine doesn't do this. I still get drive out of the Marshall presets even if the amp is the only block. What I'm getting is a fizzy trebly version of the amp.

Is this right or should I try and reinstall the firmware or something?

No, I think you're getting what you're supposed to get. Global power amp bypass doesn't bypass the whole amp block, it only bypasses the power amp section of the block. This is useful for people who run the Axe-FX thru a tube power amp, so that they can use the preamp of the Axe-FX with their own power amp and not get two stages of power amp coloration. What you're describing sounds similar to what I get when I tried the power amp bypass.
