Friedman IR Load & Wampler Pedalhead

Some new interesting Power Amp options coming from Friedman and Wampler. I believe Synergy has their own version coming too. The main new feature of both of these is the machine learning poweramp tech that measures the cabinet voltage for better amp/speaker interaction.

IMO these days it should have a digital I/O if it has any digital component to it (which these have, especially if there’s an IR loaded aspect to it) to minimize overall latency for the signal path + acoustic delay from speakers.

Sub ms for the machine learning aspect from what I heard? + the A/D/A converters…might be negligible on their own but it adds up to the overall latency.

Great innovative product as it is👍🏻

Probably inspired from the somewhat recent SIC idea from fractal.

I agree they should make more digital connection options. It's at least nice to see some innovation with ss power amps measuring the connected cab speaker though. I remember Cliff started talking about this I think as far back as 2012 or so when they brought in the speaker curve setting.

Interesting stuff. So would this do more than me just selecting a SIC in the Amp block of the FM3? I'm currently using a Redsound MF10 for monitoring, but I'm EQ-ing it to sound more like a regular guitar cab. Would this improve that sound when combined with a small 1x12, for example? Should we turn off Poweramp modeling in the Fractal when using this? Sorry, lots of questions and a very new product of course, so I appreciate we might need to wait for some independent tests etc

Yes this is for a traditional cab for the most part. You would want to keep poweramp modeling on with the reactance knob (on the friedman) low. The wampler version almost seems like it will be a better value for modelers and bang for your buck. The Friedman IR load I heard is going to be 1499. Not sure about the wampler pedal.

Yeah, the Wampler makes more sense, certainly for the fm3.

I'm interested in this, but I do wonder how it would integrate or overlap with all of the existing power supply, transformer & impedance emulation already in the Axe FX. Hopefully if this type of tech becomes widely adopted, Cliff can condense his wizard knowledge into a layperson's guide on how to set our units to work with it.;)

wampler said it best on his interview about his pedal on andertons namm coverage…

Paraphrasing here… it’s great for the amp in a box pedals.

A “problem” I see..

You wonder… did these amp in a box pedals emulate just the preamp or the pre+power amp?

What if the amp it’s trying to replicate relied on it’s power amp distortion? Ex. A 1959 slp pedal emulation?

Did the pedal/model replicate it with a preselect impedance curve in mind?

What do you then for authenticity?

Sure …we can go with an answer if it sounds good it is good.

A technical answer I think would be for my understanding of it is…..these are intended/great for “JUST” preamp amp based emulations/profiles/models/pedals
