Fractal Newb Here - advice appreciated !

Morning ! Decided I’m going to buy the FM9T - my first ever modeling rig, and pair it with the FR-10.

What do you wish you’d know prior to purchasing ? I appreciate all the advice.

Congrats! You're in for a great ride.

It is well worth it to read the user manual and the Fractal Audio blocks guide cover to cover. You'll get a huge leg up on the learning curve.

Learn about Presets, Channels and Scenes. Understand why each exists and how/when to use them. Once you really understand this all the rest makes perfect sense. These are covered in the manual.

What about the computer component ? I have a Mac dedicated to music but it’s a few years old… still works perfectly…

The editor is pretty light. An old computer is totally fine. It may be more important if you intend to do a lot of recording, but I'm not the guy to ask about that.

FM9 Edit works fine on my 2015 MacBook Pro.

Read the manual, read the block guides, check out the wiki, purchase Cooper Carter’s class or watch Rosh’s free video series on YouTube. It’s a great unit and the learning curve isn’t bad if you do your homework. There’s great people with great knowledge here, but put a few hours in and read/watch the aforementioned resources, they’ll teach you everything you need to know to hit the ground running. Congratulations and have fun!

I have a cool story about an SG. Right out of Nam, on Long Island, there was guy selling speed and he like the way I played and sang-acoustic Martin d-35 was all I had at the time and a very strong voice, which I still have today!. So he asked me if I liked the Dead Now remember this is around 1971. I said hell yeah. He said play a few, I did, truckin, friend of the devil, and so on. He took my and my girl to Sam Ash in Hempstead and bought me a Gibson SG......Amazing!
