Bug? FM3 Lags on Macbook Air M1

Hello,

I'm using Apple M1 MacBook Air. I'm using basic GarageBand as a DAW.

I'm getting lag. I have output 1 routing through to output 2 with my speakers running out of output 2.

I've seen other similar posts about lag with FM3. Axe FX III is advertised as a world class USB audio interface, but I guess FM3 is not and there is lag?

Is there something I'm not seeing here?

If I need a separate USB audio interface, can anyone recommend one?

I was looking at Apogee, but they are very expensive.

Thanks.

Be sure to monitor direct, not through your computer. If you do that, you'll have no perceptible lag or latency when you play. There's no need for an audio interface, you just need to make sure input monitoring is turned off on the track in Garage Band. See the "Direct Monitoring" topic in the recording guide for instructions:

can I ask how you are connecting your fractal to your MacBook Air? having issues getting FM3 output into my MacBook for G-Band

Yes! I am connecting it with a usb cable, USB type B to USB C.

The FM3 lags. I guess it wasn't meant as a studio device, it's for live shows. The Lag is horrible. It's almost a full second of lag, then you have to manually drag the portion you played to compensate....but it never ends up sounding like it did when you played it.

I just bought the Focusrite 2i2 and it is doing a much better job. It's an extra step intbetween but my recordings sound much better now. Using the FM3 direct is awful, you will be wondering why your recordings sound so muddy and off.

thanks for the info. I am looking into the Focusrite 212 as well - will go ahead now. thanks for the info and good luck with your rig!

I have the FM3 and there's no lag on a mac from 2010.

Have you tried this?

Are you talking about a lag in the FM3 recorded audio compared to other tracks in your DAW?

If so, there's a much simpler workaround than using an audio interface:

In particular, the FM3 instructions are here:
