FCB1010 w/ UnO + Axe-Fx - Need Pointers

Hi,

I got an Axe Standard and Behringer FCB1010 together recently, and trying to figure out this FCB is really eating at me! I've spent all night playing around with this thing and cannot for the life of me figure out how to program it to do what I want...

I could REALLY use some help here. I've gone through all of the tutorials I could find, and read the entire FCB1010 manual. All of the instructions are really vague, and are hard to correspond with the Axe's settings. The few things I want to know how to do are:

1) Set buttons 6-10 to control certain Axe-Fx patches (let's say they're patch numbers 002-006 on my Axe's A-channel).
(I have already set buttons 6-10 to be the patches, and 1-5 to stompbox mode.)

2) Set buttons 1-5 to un-bypass stomp boxes within each preset. i.e. If button 9 on my FCB sets patch 005 on my Axe, I want to set up button 2 within the button 9 preset on the FCB to un-bypass a Flanger pedal that I have in my loop - bypassed by default.

If someone could even break down a step-by-step on sending a PC on button 9 from my FCB to patch 005 on my Axe, and then setting a CC on button 2 on the FCB within the button 9 preset to un-bypass the flange effect, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I learn best by running through a specific example and could really use the help.

Thanks!

You are trying to program the FCB1010 with the original manual? The new UnO chip you installed changed a lot of the programming functionality. I'm at work so I'm too busy to find out the specifics to programming with the board itself, but the easiest way to do it is use an editor software on your PC that supports your UnO chip such as the Ripwerx editor: fcb1010 - UnO - software (There's also a nice howto section right on that site!)

When I get home, there'll be a brand-new Axe-FX II waiting for me and I can't wait to set it up with my UnO equipped FCB1010. Not to mention playing it :)

Ok. Here is one way to do it:

1. Setup:

- Download http://www.voes.be/fcb1010/pdf/fcb_uno_v1_0_2_userguide.pdf
- Read first 2 pages and make sure you followed the instructions initializing ext. memory and stompbox mode
- Download, read, do http://www.voes.be/fcb1010/pdf/fcb1010 calibrate expression pedals.pdf (calibrate expression pedals)

2. Enabeling SYX recieve (to make it work with the editor):

- While switching on the unit press 'down' 2.5 sec. Then 'down' again. Green config led is on now. Make sure that button 7 is on. Press 'down' for 2.5 sec to save.

3. Editor:

- Connect to MIDI interface with two cables
- Download and start http://www.voes.be/fcb1010/software/fcb1010_editor_v2.0_java50.jar
- To make sure everything is connected and works: Tools -> MIDI loop test
- Download http://www.voes.be/fcb1010/software/fcb1010_axe-fx.zip
- Open FCB1010 Axe-FX.syx
- Explore. Ripwerx is selfexplaining. You don't understand a value? Point at it with mouse.
- Tweak to meet you needs. (AxeFX: I/O menu -> CTRL Here you can find the CC values and what they change)
- MIDI -> Send patch dump

4. Have fun and finally play your guitar

Sorry I'm just getting back to you, I've been really busy. But I've gone through your steps, and I'm up to testing the MIDI loop with the Editor. I have a 2x2 MIDI interface, and have In-A connected to the FCB's OUT, and Out-A connected to the FCB's IN. When testing the loop, I choose Port-A for MIDI-IN and Port-A also for MIDI-OUT. I'm told to "disconnect the FCB" and connect the IN-A to OUT-A... When I do this and test the connection, I get a message saying "Reciever time-out" and I have to power cycle my Mac to get the application to close. Am I doing something wrong here?

I appreciate the detailed instructions thus far.

No, I think you are doing fine.
My suspicion is trouble with the MIDI interface' driver. I'd suggest to try the AxeFX II as MIDI Interface.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. I have the Axe Standard, by the way, but I was using a MIDI-to-USB interface to go from the pedalboard directly into my computer.

Sorry, I thought you had the Axe2 which can be used as a MIDI-USB interface. My suggestion was to try another MIDI interface.

Well my MIDI interface works with my Axe when using Axe-Edit. Now, however, I've reinstalled Java after hearing that some older versions gave Mac's issues with MIDI. I notice that the A-channel connectivity light on my interface flashes when hooked up with my Axe, but NOT when hooked up with the FCB. I'm thinking there must either be a MIDI setting for the FCB that isn't set...or the controller's MIDI loop is busted :eek:ops
