Digital input question (AxeFx Standard)

Hi there!

I often do my recordings and reampings via S/PDIF with really good results without any issues. For recording I use analog front input but get output signal from S/PDIF output. For reamping I set input to digital and use just 2 RCA-cables to connect my AxeFx Standard to the audio interface (AI). In these cases I don't connect any analog outputs to any interfaces.

Yesterday I've tried other scenario, much like my reamping setup but with guitar connected to the AI analog input and AxeFx main outputs connected to the monitoring mixer:
I've setted AxeFx input to digital and use analog input on my AI for guitar, correctly routed this input to S/PDIF output of my AI (setted sampling freq and clock correctly). Main outputs (Output 1 L and R) were connected to my monitoring mixer. So when all was setted I've got a nice sound from AxeFx S/PDIF output, but Output 1 sounds broken (intermittent parts of processed guitar tone with nasty hiss and random levels). When I switched back to front input all was ok (including signal on S/PDIF output).
Tried this with my AxeFx2 today and it works as I expected: simultaneous S/PDIF and analog outputs works fine with input setted to digital, no issues at all.

I found an interesting note in manual (p. 11) that when input source is setted to digital the "input 1 is defeated and the effects loop is not active"... But I'm pretty sure that I was using the fxloop couple of times while reamping... Could this be related to main outs and not to fxloop? Or am I missing something?

So is it a hardware failure (problem with setting clock to S/PDIF input data stream... or something wrong with DAC synchronization since digital output works fine) or this feature (digital input -> processing -> digital output + main analog output) is just not provided by design in 1st gen units?

Any advices or insights are wellcome!
