Clocking problems

Has anyone been able to set the axe FX3 as The master clock source when connecting to some other device via AES?
The only way I have been able to get the unit to work with other effects processors connected AES is when I set the clock to "external" in the axe FX and to use the other device as the master. I have tried this with two devices so far. Otherwise if I do the reverse and set the axe fx 3 as internal to the clock source, there is either digital noise or no sound.

In addition, Anytime i connect AES, and switch up the clocking source, it changes the sound of varius blocks in a subtle way and takes away top end. Turning off then on again does not fix it. Then i have to reinstall the firmware then all is fine again.

instead of reinstalling firmware, consider shutting down all devices and then powering them back up (ensuring the master clock source is fully booted before powering up the dependent devices).
