Hello,
I want to thank any forum moderators, in advance, for reading this. Anyway, this is a general question to see if we can get the instructions updated on how to use special features of this forum. ...Suff like embedding "Soundcloud" audio, "Youtube" video, photos, etc into your messages here. The traditional codes that you see standard on other forums don't always apply here. And, I can never find instructions on how to do certain stuff here. I'll give you an example from this morning. A user here was trying to embed his Youtube video on his thread at the recordings forum. It seemed logical to do, and he typed in this...

As you can see (from me just typing it), it didn't embed the youtube video. I looked everywhere through the forum instructions, FAQ's, etc with no info to be found. In order for me to get it to work, I had to move heaven and Earth to find someone else's post with a working Youtube link and try to figure out how he did it. One of my only gripes with this forum is that you can't find instructions about how to do this type of stuff anywhere. It's often complicated to figure out how to do what should be easy. Again, the FAQ's and instructions don't mention Youtube or the soundcloud stuff anywhere as far as I can see. I had to "quote" a reply of Mark Day's Lukather demo clip to see how he embedded his Youtube clip there. After more effort, I figured this out...
In theory (by how other forums work), the guy who i was trying to help did it correctly by typing this --->
But, apparently, you can't do that on these forums. Here's what he should have done:
1) Instead of typing "youtube" in the brackets, you have to type "video". Plus, in the opening backet, you'd type "video=youtube;IGaeHe9v1Rs" (IGaeHe9v1Rs is the main ID number at youtube for that video, and is part of the URL that he provided)
2) You would then put the actual full youtube URL for that video in the middle, like he tried to do above.
3) In the last bracket, you would (again) put "/video" (instead of "/Youtube").
So, it should look like this, EXCEPT you’d put these --> [ ] instead of these --> { }…
{video=youtube;IGaeHe9v1Rs}http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGaeHe9v1Rs{/video}
Doing it with the correct brackets gives you this:
Talk about jumping through hoops. I don't know why you can't just do it the way that he originally tried. But, whatever. I would be really helpful if we had easy to find instructions to remind us of how to do stuff like this. I love this forum and just want to see if it can be made easier to do more sophisticated stuff in your posts. After all, an embedded link that can just be clicked on makes everyone's lives here easier when showcasing Axe FX samples, demonstrating something, or teaching someone how to do something. Thanks again to the moderators for reading this.
