AFX2 as a backup to AFX3

Currently I have 2 AFX2’s for tour, one is the primary with midi changes controlled by the show’s TIMECODE via midi. I have the backup synched to the primary, mirroring every change/preset. Obviously the presets are incompatible with each other as stated here on the forum.

My question is...if I replace my primary AFX2 with the AFX3, is it capable of synching preset numbers... I would leave all my show’s presets intact on the 2 and just program the 3 with similar (but better, I assume) amps/fx/etc. so that I don’t have to reprogram the timecode assignments. So basically, can you synch them even if the preset contents are different?
 
If it is just midi preset changes, that should be no problem...

If you have CCs as well as PCs, that will take a little more work, but should also work fine.

If you are using CC to change X/Y (not using scenes but sending CCs) then that would be a challenge since the Axe Fx III uses Channels instead of X/Y.
