4-Cable method...sorta?

I'm thinking of using my Axe for fx only with my XTC in a wet/dry set-up, but I'm a little stumped on routing.
Here's the planned set-up...

RJM RG-16 (to control the XTC's channels and for Axe's "pedal" fx in 1 loop)
XTC to a 2x12 (dry)
Axe ("pedals" in front of XTC) (line fx to Atomic Reactor)
Atomic Reactor (wet)
RS-10 w/expander and 2 expression pedals to control everything

Gtr-RJM in-Axe in loop 1 for "pedals"- RJM out-XTC in-spkr out-2x12 (dry sound)
XTC line out-Axe in for "line" fx-Axe out-Atomic Reactor (wet sound)

After reading through the manual (and yek's how-to), it looks as if I should use in/out 1 for "line" fx, and in/out 2 for "pedal" fx. Overkill?? Or...should I run the standard 4-cable method (since the Axe has so many internal routings available)? I'm trying to get the purist amp sound I can, that's why I put the "pedal" fx in a loop. I had also read that there is some coloration from the Axe running in front of the amp.

Any help would be appreciated-

I'm using an AxeII via 4CM and I think it's pretty transparent, meaning that I don't notice that the tone is different than plugging straight into the front of the amp (I'm using a Mesa Mark IIC+). I'd suggest at least trying 4CM before going to the extra complexity of a switcher to bypass the Axe when not in use.
