Thanks for listening and for all the kind comments! Loquenau, you are right, the levels are off, I should have mentioned this is just a premix with my solo slapped on top of it. I'm sure once they mix it properly it will be balanced. On the other hand, can a lead ever be too loud? Hehehe

Hey EricP1954, thanks for the comment! I only did the lead - the rest of the guitars were done by the artist. For this lead patch I used two amps, to fatten the tone a bit. So the signal path on the left side of the lead is different from the right side. It's a cool trick, and much easier to...

axe-fx into amp is better than just amp :)

I had a similar experience yesterday! A member of this board came by my place to check out the Axe and brought his amp along (H&K Triamp). We plugged the Axe into the FX return of the head and did some A/B tests. IMO, in just a few minutes we got the Axe sounding better than the Triamp... I...

Ran as FX only with my head... sounds horrible!

There's the problem. You are running the axe in parallel, so when there is dry signal present in the axe, you get that weird, thin phasey sound. 2 possible solutions: 1 - run the mix knob all the way up (fx in series) 2 - run all the fx in the axe at 100% mix (no dry sound in the axe)
