Comparing Low Cut - High Cut Methods

I think I saw that same video and curious what the answers are. I usually have a parametric EQ after the cab block just to do a low and high cut. Never really considered the pros/cons of doing it in the amp or cab block.

Monitor suggestions

Everyone always recommends the HS8's, so I got a pair a few years ago and they are good, especially for the money. But recently I also added a pair of Focal Shape 65's and have been super impressed. I don't think that I will be switching to the HS8's much besides maybe doing sanity comparisons...

High-shielded cables and EMI noise

Adding a Hush unit helps a lot. In most cases has eliminated the noise that you hear behind the notes. Watch the video and you can hear it kill the EMI noise. I place it before the input, and in between the Amp and Cab block.

Recently moved my gear into a new room that we built that is detached from the house. Not totally soundproof, but we used Quietrock and that lowered the dB about 50dB. So I can jam here all night and not bother anyone!

No mine doesn’t do that. I am assuming that you played with the knob as well? I never have it on 100%, I just turn it up a little until all noise and hum are gone.

That happened to me too, I think that the way that it works is to have the Out/In 3 between the amp and the cab block. Also I think that it matters which Out/In 3 physical input is actually used on the back of the unit. I get full stereo with it, so I will double check my setup when I get home...

Either one of those scenarios will work. I do both. Works great for recording since it cleanses the emi noise from notes that ring out. Just use one input on the hush for direct guitar input, and also place the hush in the fx loop of the Axe-III.

Noise gate won't fix EMI noise. Once a note is ringing out and dying off the noise will creep in and ruin your recording. I had similar issues and fixed it with a 2 input Hush pedal. I don't have this problem anymore, and there was another thread before dedicated to this issue...

Yeah this is a great write up and helped me get up and running for the most part on the LT. Some things are a little different it seems, the firmware notes for the LT suggested using 2 separate 5 pin midi cables for in/out. I think you could also use the phantom power box, but I never tried it...

Yes please. Being pretty new to the Fractal world this is the thing that most surprises me. There are a ton of amp packs and presets for metal tones, but nothing that resembles good and creative FX presets like Strymon or Eventide.

Do you use your AX3 as a usb interface?

I use it as my main interface, but it is a hassle to unplug everything when I need to take it to rehearsal or a show. So I would be curious what other people are using that would make it easier to plug it in/out easily. But it works great so far besides the cable hassles.

I love the Space/Blackhole presets that they have which I know are pretty much just delay/reverb/modulation combos. I just haven’t been able to find time to build some of these myself, or I am just too lazy. The Eclipse has like 1000 presets or something like that, and that is more my style...

Axe-Fx III users: still use outboard effects?

Axe-Fx III users: still use outboard effects?

I ditched most of my pedals besides the Digitech drop and the Rocktron Hush. I am seriously considering getting a Eventide Eclipse for some of the ambient presets. I just don’t have time to try and recreate some of presets that they have like Blackhole, etc.

Thanks for this write up. Currently our band is running both guitars through a single Axe 3 and it is working great, but the compression and power amp tips make a lot of sense and I can't wait to try them out. Is there a compressor model that would be better in this situation? I would assume...

Awesome! I have an interesting setup in my home studio right now as I have the Axe3 going to monitors, and also going to a cab to compare. I have 2 presets that are identical, one doesn't use a cab block, and the other with the cab block uses an IR of my physical cab (4x12 Marshall 1960a)...

I am curious to try this in my live setup where I don't use IR's since I am bypassing the cab block and going straight into a Marshall 1960a Lead cab. If I understand this correctly it could also give me a little more control?

Multiple Buzzing Sounds

Yes. This pedal can get rid of almost all the issues. I use it at home and our rehearsal space and all buzzing and pickup EMI noise is gone. In fact it has been such a life saver I changing my rack to a 6u to fit one of these for a cleaner solution...
